I have created captivating commercials and films for brands worldwide. Now, my eyes are set on a new adventure film that promises the same thrills and action of a roller-coaster ride -- OPERATION CAVITY.
'Write what you know.' That's the traditional wisdom that screenwriting gurus tell aspiring filmmakers when they're searching for ideas to create. However, I took a bit of a different approach, 'Write what you fear.'
I began developing this project four years ago after shooting my last award-winning short film, Hi-Glow Retro. The concept focuses on a boy and his fear of the dentist. Growing up, that boy was me.
Maybe I can blame myself for having a mouthful of cavities from a diet of sour candies or that time the orthodontist shaved down my front teeth so that they were perfectly flat-edge. Whatever it may be, I know this -- in the eyes of a kid, going to the dentist can be terrifying. Syringes. Drills. Pliers.
Now, throw in my love for great action films and we have OPERATION CAVITY.
WHAT IS OPERATION CAVITY?
This is a heist film. Think Stranger Things meets Ocean's 11. Or for the older crowd think 1980s-style adventure, like what Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment started off creating.
Operation Cavity is an unusual coming-of-age story that follows 11 year-old Douglas Maroney as he plots to rob the dentist who traumatized his childhood.
When Douglas complains to his friends about his dentist, keeping a tooth that he extracted from him — he soon discovers that he’s not the only one. In fact, they realize that the dentist has a secret collection that he’s been building over the years. Douglas and his friends are inspired to plot an elaborate heist to steal back their teeth from the Dentist and sell it to younger students on the 'black market' at school for tooth fairy money.
Fast. Action. High-Stakes. This is a bank job. There’s never a dull moment on this roller-coaster ride. As any good film, there are some comedic moments, but this isn’t a comedy — these kids want their teeth back. Each shot will push the narrative or introduce a new piece of information to help our viewers follow along. Think Hell or High Water, Die Hard, Jurassic Park, Sicario, Ocean’s 11, Baby Driver, Overlord, and Goodfellas.
In order to successfully pull off a heist, you need a highly-skilled group of craftsmen -- Mountain-Movers. Can-Doers. Punctual. Creative. These humans below are seasoned professionals, the Avengers of filmmaking.
WHY SHOULD I GIVE YOU MY MONEY?
Our last film, Hi-Glow Retro, proved that we could produce a compelling and striking film inexpensively. Four years later, we have grown tremendously as filmmakers and have gained tons of experience. Now we want to step up our game, but we need your help.
We've already invested a significant amount of our own resources and will be receiving no pay for this shoot. The budget we're asking for is what we need to get everything else done: from craft services to the custom design and creating a denture for the surgery scene. From start to finish, from production to post, you will be making this film happen. And it will be epic.
We hope to encourage supporters of independent film to participate in this production from the very beginning. We want to involve you (the audience) in this adventure, as well as give you opportunities to share in the success of the film.
As soon as we’ve successfully funded this project, we’ll immediately move into production. We’ve already began pre-production work (location scouting, scheduling and more), and selecting key cast and on-boarding crew members (and you). But to officially attach these professionals, we first need to complete funding.
We plan to shoot for four days in Early August 2019 in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Our goal is to premiere at film festivals in the Spring of 2020.
This project is a proof of concept for a TV series that Alex is currently developing.
The poster has not yet been created but it will be similar to this poster for Hi-Glow Retro or better!

Festival Premieres! As an Executive Producer, you'll join us on the red carpet.
I have helped four Kickstarter campaigns raise close to a million dollars through the videos I have created over the past seven years. Among the most successful campaigns were EMBR Wave, a campaign that reached $629,856 from a $100,000 goal and Daniel's, which raised $243,918 from a $25,000 goal. I have witnessed the influence that Kickstarter has in helping creators find supporters for their projects and now I am hoping to find those supporters for my own passion project, Operation Cavity.
WHY SHOULD I CARE?
Alex is a sought after director known for creating distinctive worlds with emotional storytelling, strong characters and a very cinematic visual style. Operation Cavity is his most ambitious project yet and will surely be the best. Why not be involved in creating something epic? Below are some of Alex's greatest hits (including Hi-Glow Retro above):
Thank you for reading about OPERATION CAVITY! This project is very important to us and we are excited to share it with you.
Simply put, we CANNOT make this without YOU! With Kickstarter it is all or nothing. If a campaign does not reach its goal, no money is collected, no project can get made, and thus no rewards distributed.
Risks and challenges
Filmmaking naturally comes with many risks and challenges, for this project it includes working with young actors, stunts, and coordinating with numerous artists on a tight timeline. However, Alex has directed several projects with child actors and is confident he will be able to direct them for Operation Cavity. We have ample amount of experience working on films of all sizes and we are certain that we will successfully complete our mission and execute. We are thoroughly prepared.
Given the nature of the 'limited' perks, we will have to wait until we finish production on the film before we can worry about fulfilling perks. (For ex. Advice Calls, Film Workshops, Film Class, Scripts, and Videos.)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
