My name is Alex Solis. I'm a designer/Illustrator living in Chicago. I've been doing a lot of small series using illustrations and real life objects. I was lucky enough to be featured on some places like the huffington post, Instagram, buzzfeed most creative accounts of 2013.
I decided I wanted to create a series that wasn't so random, going through a bunch of different ideas and sketching characters interacting with my hands, it started to look like I was doing Sign Language, I started doing a few and showing my daughter found that it was easier for her to pick up and learn the sign language alphabet without even thinking about it.
The project consist of photographing the american sign language alphabet one letter at the time, and along with that letter there will be a fun character that starts with that letter, interacting with the form of the hand signal.
This is a visually fun way of showing and learning all the signs.
Why a Book?
I felt a book would be perfect way to get the whole series together for someone to own and enjoy, and hopefully also pick up a bit of the sign language.
I want to contact a few schools for the deaf and try to have this book be in a classroom for younger kids.
I have a quote for a hardcover book, 8x8 inches and 30 pages. To make the minimum order of 1000 copies, I need your help!
I'm writing, photographing and illustrating all of this myself. Most of the funds will be production costs: printing the books. And you'll also get to be a part of the journey of a first time author.

Risks and challenges
This is the first time I’m doing a children's book. I've talk to a few friends that have done kickstarters and funded similar projects successfully. I've created all the images and have everything layed out for the book, I will be working more on the higher res photos and images as the kickstarter is happening.
I have a quote on initial 1000 copies batch. Production is pretty standard and I have samples from the printer I'm using already.
Shipping is expensive and always a bit of an unknown. This is why I’m planning on using a bit of the budget raised towards shipping, so the initial buyers from kickstarter get a better deal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
