Hi everybody out there inspiring all this music. My name is Alejandra O'Leary and I make original rock n' roll records. I write songs and create unique textures in the recording studio with amazing creative collaborators.
I recently moved from Michigan to North Carolina, and I am making a new full-length record here in the land of Tarheels. I am excited for you to hear the new songs and be a part of my record-making process.
New Projects (2014-2015):
1) The new full-length record: I'm currently recording a new album at studio m in Durham, North Carolina, in collaboration with my talented friends Mark Simonsen and Thom Canova (you may know them from their work with The Old Ceremony). So far, it is raw and rockin and musically blasphemous. If you like deep explorations in rock n' roll, strange slinky-like melodies, pushing the envelope in every direction, occasionally ripping through the envelope, lots of kinds of chaos, you will enjoy listening to it.
There's something cool for your eyes, too: for this new record, I am honored to be working with Klaus Voormann on the art and design for the album cover. Klaus is a designer and musician I have looked up to my whole life; his body of work speaks for itself.
2) BURN ME UP /// ALL OF THIS TIME: the new two-song single from Alejandra O'Leary & the Champions of the West
This single is a double-A-side representing our best work. It is a companion piece to our 2014 record HEARTSPACE TIMEPIECE, and a stand-alone release designed to climb the hit parade, hurdling elegantly over the competition.
In its review of HEARTSPACE TIMEPIECE, Innocent Words Magazine wrote:
Probably without trying to do so, this group has managed to put out a soundtrack for an indie film that has yet to be made. The songs on this disc have that same listless, yet wistful, tone that captures the lighthearted grittiness found in so many movies of that genre. It swings between every pace of the human condition. If Ms. O’Leary and her like-minded compatriots continue to fuse their skills the way they did on this disc, then it’s a pretty safe bet they’ll be champions of places far beyond the West.
So we've got two more songs for you! If you have seen us perform live in the last year, you have heard these songs. This single was recorded at ReelSound Audio in Novi, Michigan by Jamie Ascenzo, produced by Jamie Church and myself, and features performances by The Champions of the West, including standout tracks from Martin Maginity, Jimmy Sindelar, and Rachel Common.
The art and design for the single are in the hands of the incomparable Marvin Astorga. Marvin is an artist and musician who has created many memorable pieces for the band over the years. Marvin and I were in a band together when we were both little:
3) HoHoHo: I've been asked to record a Christmas song. I'm gonna do it. It will be like no Christmas song you have ever heard in your life.
Check out the rewards: there are several levels at which you can support and rock out to this new work. The $60 level gets you the full subscription for the year, by the end of the year you'll have in your possession all of the finished projects listed above.
Recent Work (you can skip this part if you already know us!)
Alejandra O'Leary & The Champions of the West just released a Kickstarter-funded album called HEARTSPACE TIMEPIECE on August 26, 2014. Here we should step out and thank our original team of Kickstarter backers from the bottom of our collective band hearts. We would not be here without you. We are so grateful you put your trust & support behind this record!
And then we threw a blowout concert at Crazy Wisdom in Ann Arbor to celebrate the album's world debut. You can read all about that performance here, and it's like you were there.
HEARTSPACE TIMEPIECE has been receiving exciting reviews in the local and national music press. But don't take their word for it: hear the songs for yourself! We think you will like it. It's available on iTunes, Amazon, and Bandcamp.
How You Can Help Us Rock Harder
An excellent way you can help this all-or-nothing album funding campaign succeed is to share it on your social media pages and email it around to your friends and introduce it to other fans of independent music. It's just a three-week campaign, and we're aiming to reach as many potential new fans during this brief time as we can.
Beyond these simple acts of sharing, any amount you can donate will be put right to work, going directly into these projects. We're not here to make millions - we're just here to make music.

Risks and challenges
The new full-length album, the two-song band single, and the Christmas single are all currently in states approaching completion. I do not see any obstacles to completing these projects. They are the main focus of my work life in 2015.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
