Alea Tools :
Color MixMagnetic Status Markers!
Thanks for stopping by! We are Alea Tools, and the purpose of this Color Mix Kickstarter project is create a new series of two-color Magnetic Status Markers for Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Savage Worlds, and other tabletop role playing games.
We have been working on this process with the same local vendor that helped us add 18 awesome new colors in our 2013 Color Boost Kickstarter Project. We have already run a few test batches and done some tweaking to the process to get something that we think is both awesome-looking and useful at the game table. We hope you agree!
Our Kickstarter funds will be used to purchase colorant to produce new one-inch Magnetic Status Markers that contain a unique mix of two colors. If we exceed our funding goal, we have lined up a long list of stretch goals and backer rewards, including freebies! In an effort to reduce the risk to an on-time delivery, we will focus on one-inch markers.
What are Magnetic Status Markers?
Our Magnetic Status Markers are colored discs that fit in the space between your mini and the mat.
- CONVENIENT - Always tucked right under your miniature and the magnets keep everything together, so you can move it like a chess piece.
- EFFECTIVE - Everyone at the table can see what is going on with your character at all times.
- INNOVATIVE - Wet-erase and dry-erase safe, so you can store important game information: skill checks, modifier bonuses, monster numbers 1-10, etc.
FLEXIBLE - Designed for any tabletop roleplaying games that using minis, including: all recent editions off Dungeons & Dragons (5th Edition, 4th Edition, 3rd Edition, 3.5), Pathfinder, Hackmaster, Savage Worlds, and other D20 game systems.
These are awesome!
How do I use them in my game?
Our Magnetic Status Markers are a flexible resource that can adapt to any game table or set of house rules. Each color helps you instantly depict your character status: bloodied, wounded, flying, poisoned, cursed. The more colors you have at your disposal, the more information you can share.
Colors can also be use to indicate specific rules, such as marked, hunter's quarry, and player / monster identification. And you can place them under your miniatures to indicate equipment, such as light sources and identifying weapons in hand.
Many of our players tell us their campaign’s color meanings can vary from encounter to encounter. You are only limited by your imagination!
How do they work with my minis?
Thanks to our handy Self-Stick Metal Sticker Circles, our Magnetic Status Markers can be used with minis of all kinds: plastic, metal, resin, wood, etc. We offer several sizes of pre-cut circles and you can trim them with scissors to fit any size or shape of base.
What do the colors mean?
Color meanings can vary from game system to game system and campaign to campaign, but here are some general suggestions to get you started:
- Red – bloodied or critically wounded
- Orange – moderately wounded, dazed, or ordering pizza
- Yellow – lightly wounded, light source
- Light Gray – stealth, invisible
- Dark Gray – unconscious
- Black – prone, dead
- Blue – flying, water breathing
- Green – poisoned
Purple – charmed

Risks and challenges
We are very confident in the success of this Color Mix Kickstarter project. We have been producing our Magnetic Status Markers since 2003 and have had two prior successful Kickstarter campaigns.
Our main obstacle to adding new versions of our Magnetic Status Markers has always been the cost of new colorant. In addition to backer support, Alea Tools will also be financially investing in the success of this project. We have worked with our vendor to produce prototype versions of this new product and researching methods to improve the colorant mixing technique before the project launch. We are continuing to work with our vendor to ensure that the version of the product that we deliver will have been tested and refined, rather than a first draft.
Manufacturing prices can fluctuate, but we have obtained recent quotes and are confident in our pricing. (And, as mentioned above, we will be absorbing some of the manufacturing expense for this project.) Manufacturing and production time can vary, but we have mitigated that by staggering reward levels so we can deliver rewards on or before the promised delivery deadlines.
The Color Mix effect in this project is achieved by melting two different colorants at two different temperatures. Because there is some room for variation in this method, each marker created in this project is likely to be one of a kind. Some markers will have a very distinct Color Mix effect and some will be more subtle. We will be sorting and assembling the markers by hand and discarding any that do not meet our quality standards. Please read all descriptions for details on all color options.
Please note, we are trying to represent the colors as accurately as possible in our photos and sample graphics, but the colors shown on your monitor may vary slightly from the actual colors of the Magnetic Status Markers that you receive.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
