Ironclad is a cooperative space opera game for 1 to 3 players.
Ironclad's story-driven campaign puts you in the far future, in the midst of a cosmic Cold War between various galactic-spanning factions. The players are freelancers aboard the Ironclad, a powerful, battle-worn warship that defected from the Gaia Nova Federation Navy. The game's story unfolded by its narrative and fleshed out by Manos Lagouvardos' amazing art, is our love letter to space operas and sci fi movies, cartoons and comics of the 80s and early 90s.
In Ironclad, players collectively control the battleship and follow a campaign of 10+ scenarios, ensuring that their ship and her systems as well as her crew and its morale remain intact along their adventure. Each scenario will feature interesting decision points. The consequences of these choices will have benefits and/or repercussions within the current game as well as impact on future scenarios. With each passing scenario, the story unfolds according to the choices the players have made.
Ironclad is designed to provide players with a challenging game and a highly replayable campaign, with victory being far from assured. In order to emerge victorious, the players will need to customize their Hero roster and battleship according to the challenges they expect to face, as well as to cooperate in order to overcome the dangers ahead.
Each player will be assigned to one of the vital stations on the battleship, such as the Bridge (maneuvering the ship and evading enemy fire), Weapons (using the battleship's firepower), and Hangar (Controlling the Ironclad's fighter squadron). They will be required to carefully issue orders and assign hero crew members as needed. The heroes' skills and unique special abilities are the key to survival in unforgiving space. As the campaign proceeeds, the heroes can be promoted, and even be equipped with skill-enhancing gear.
Each Scenario provides the players with a different map setup and narrative about what's to come. Each sector of the map has its own cosmic conditions to resolve, and on top of that, a hidden intel token to discover or recon. The Intel tokens can lead to a random event, encounter or operation. The players choose their course of action and navigate through space as they see fit.
In Ironclad, all players play simultaneously and in a way, collectively. Each turn, they will need to discuss and decide how they will use their available actions to maximize their efficiency. Efficiency and time matters, especially when the team is after the scenario's optional achievements. Players need to accomplish their main goals, of course, but there will also be opportunities to discover secret objectives and side missions.
Ironclad's campaign is persistent, meaning that damage sustained or any benefit gained, will carry over to the next scenario. A campaign log will be provided to record all necessary information. Over the course of the campaign, players will be able to upgrade their ship with better weapons, shields, reactor, etc. They will become famous or infamous as they build the Ironclad's legend throughout the game.
In the distant future, humankind reached for the stars to escape its potential extinction. Hope took root in their new home, but soon, hope was overcome by pride and arrogance. Humanity's rapid expansion did not escape the attention of the other intelligent, space-faring species, some of whom did not take kindly to humanity's greed. Sadly, war was inevitable. The Gaia Nova Federation suffered catastrophic losses, both in terms of population as well as territory, at the hands of a mysterious, warmongering species called the Firstborn. As the conflict began to escalate dangerously, the Galactic Council intervened and enforced a ceasefire, ending all hostilities...in the short term. A peace treaty was signed and the Gaia Nova Federation was given a probationary seat at the Council. Adaptable as it had always been, humankind stood on its feet once again.
The infamous battleship, the Ironclad, was a remnant of the First Galactic War between the Gaia Nova Federation and the Firstborn. As the war came to an end, the Ironclad's crew was dismayed to learn that the Federation was really no better than its enemies, having commited atrocities that rivaled those of the Firstborn. The Captain, with the full support of his crew, mutinied and renounced the Federation, and declared their independence. The Ironclad would now be a renegade mercenary, her crew doing freelance jobs - smuggling, protection and bounty-hunting for the highest bidder. Soon, they would be entangled in a spiraling course of events that would reignite the fuse of war across the galaxy. As the power brokers and individual factions promoted their agendas in their bids for galactic control, freelance battleships, like the Ironclad would find their services in high demand during these tumultuous times.

We are a fairly new group of board game designers, with some veterans among us. As a team, we have successfully funded 3 projects, Argonauts, Deus Ex Machina and Alexander's Campaign, the first two of which have already been delivered, and the third is currently being fulfilled. Alcyon Creative is a small indie publisher, so we don't have access to traditional distribution or the resources to produce the minimum number of copies in a print run (including relevant expenses like artwork, graphic design etc.).
We strongly believe in our project and we once again managed to invest more than 6000 EUR (roughly 7080 USD) for artwork, graphic design and other miscellaneous costs for this campaign. In order to bring Ironclad to life, we reach out to you - asking for your support in raising the rest of the required funds to accomplish our goal of bringing this wonderful game to life.
Once published, the M.S.R.P. for Ironclad will be 55 USD. The $35 pledge translates to a 37% discount!
Please note that all stretch goals reached during this campaign will be FREE for all Kickstarter backers. Unlike our previous projects, all stretch goals during this campaign will be used to enrich the gaming experience of Ironclad. Heroes, Enforcers, Villains and more customization options for the battleship will allow us to incorporate a wider variety of elements for the players to discover as they play and there are no plans for mini-expansions for Ironclad. There are, however, plans for a sequel game which will continue to build upon the foundational story of Ironclad.
We won't be sacrificing quality, either. Our manufacturer's work has received exceedingly positive feedback on all of our projects so far, and it was only natural for us to enlist their services once more. We at Alcyon Creative, as well as our previous backers, were extremely satisfied with the previous quality of the game materials.
Retailer backers and distributors will receive their rewards before the retail release of Ironclad. If you're a retailer, please contact us at email@example.com during the course of this campaign for pricing and shipping information.
We will fulfill all the shipping ourselves from within the EU. Our estimated delivery will be November 2018, provided there are no unexpected or unforeseen delays in the production and handling process. All backers (both European and International) needn't worry about customs fees. We have a unified cost for Worldwide shipping of $10 USD/per copy. We take extra care to pack each game securely with bubble-wrap and seal it inside the shipping box to avoid any damage to the content.
Our shipping method does not include tracking. Our previous experience has shown a percentage of lost items close to 0%. Should you for any reason require tracking for your order, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know. Please note that you will be responsible with additional shipping costs since your order will have to be handled separately from our group shipping method.
For sustainability reasons, we keep shipping costs as low as possible. As a result, our group shipping method is to ship each item included in your pledge in a separate pagkage.
Shipments to non-EU backers will have 17 EUR declared as the value of the package. That's roughly equivalent to 19 USD / 24 CAD / 24 AUD / 17 CHF / 2264 JPY, and should be under the threshold that triggers customs duties in most countries. Please note, however, that we cannot be responsible for any unforeseen customs fees.
OUR OTHER GAMES
Alexander's Campaign was published in 2017 via a successful Kickstarter campaign. Alexander's Campaign is a competitive, historical board game for 2-3 players that follows each step of Alexander's campaign in the east, from 334 to 324 BCE. Players assist Alexander the Great in his campaign to conquer Persia, while at the same time striving to distinguish themselves among their brothers-in-arms in order to become Alexander's right hand.
Deus Ex Machina was published in 2016 via a successful Kickstarter campaign. It's a competitive game for 2-4 players with an innovative hero placement mechanism. It is set in mythological ancient Greece, where players assume the role of an Olympian god trying to achieve supremacy over the other gods through the manipulation of heroes and clandestine machinations. The ultimate goal is to accumulate the most Glory Points by compelling heroes to complete quests.
Argonauts was published in 2015 via a successful Kickstarter campaign. It's a cooperative game for 1-4 players set in mythological ancient Greece, depicting the myth of Jason and the Argonauts. With the 1st edition sold out, there are plans for a 2nd edition within 2018.

Risks and challenges
Ironclad will be printed and shipped from within the EU. We expect excellent manufacturing quality as we are working with a well-known and respected manufacturer that we've employed in the past for all of our projects with amazing results!
We are also confident in our ability to deliver the game, as well as any additional content, in a timely fashion as we do not have to wait for any overseas containers.
The artwork for the base game is complete and the artwork for the stretch goals is on the verge of being green-lit for finalization. That said, unforeseen events may affect fulfillment speed, and the final graphics and components that you see presented here are subject to change.
Note that our goal is to ship the game on time, by the dates listed on the pledge levels. Shipping a package is different than delivering a package. We do not deliver your game - the shipping company does. Therefore, delivery times can vary according to your local postal services. Once we ship, the shipment becomes the responsibility of the shipping company.
By backing this project, you indicate that you have read, understood, and agreed with the above. If you have any questions, please contact us directly via the Kickstarter messaging system.
When dealing with a large number of orders, there is always a chance that errors will occur. If, after receiving your order, you discover that something is missing, please contact us at email@example.com and we will send you the missing items as soon as possible.
If your package suffers damage during delivery, please take a few photos of all damaged items and email them to us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will send you replacements as soon as possible.
Generally, we do not offer refunds unless we are completely unable to deliver the project. We will not offer refunds due to delivery delays or changes/adjustments to the game's components, layout, etc., or for damaged components that can be replaced. We will examine any refund request on a case-by-case basis and may issue a refund at our discretion.
If a package is not delivered due to backer error (wrong address submitted, package went unclaimed by the backer from their post office, etc.), the backer will be responsible to pay additional shipping fees for the item to be re-shipped.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
