About this project

The app

Blind Communicator is an open source Android app for blind people, enabling them to use smartphones and tablets. The app has a voice-guide that tells the user everything that is happening in the device (screen off/on, screen rotation, incoming call, etc.).

The app is available for download:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ar.com.lrusso.blindcommunicator

The app's source code at GitHub:

https://github.com/lrusso/BlindCommunicator

The localization

This Kickstarter project is intended to fund the localisation of the app into up to 50 languages. This will make it available for visually impaired people worldwide. The localisation will include:

  • Some work on app internationalisation (programming)
  • User interface (voice-based) string resource translation
  • App description translation
  • Video tutorial localisation (subtitles)
  • Further translation support

The number of languages to translate depends on the total amount raised:

  • $10000 (10 languages)
  • $15000 (20 languages)
  • $20000 (30 languages)
  • $25000 (40 languages)
  • $30000 (50 languages)
  • etc.

The initial goal is 10,000 (10 languages), but the more we raise, the more languages we cover and the longer the translation support (updates) period will be.
