"An affordable Trials bike" made in Barcelona.
FANTOM Motorcycles® is born with the idea in mind of making Trials accessible to everyone.
Thus, we have designed and patented the first trial bike with a horizontal engine; a type of economic and reliable engine which will help to reduce costs. This, added to our tight commercial margin, makes us position ourselves as the most affordable option in the market. Therefore, it will become an ideal product to introduce Trial to emerging countires.
Why this engine? The horizontal 4 stroke OHV engine of Honda is the most popular and most copied in the world. It was introduced for the first time with the Honda CUB and mini-bikes of such brand in the sixties and it is still manufactured today without significant changes. As the patent expired, a lot of other brands started manufacturing copies of this engine, with uncountable changes in design and cubic capacity (between 50cc and 190cc), but always with the same support anchorage on the chassis, making them all compatible. This, added to the popularity of pit-bikes (which also use these engines), has resulted in an infinite amount of spare parts available across the world.
We (Eric and Albert) are passionate about Trials and the developers of this project. It was during our Asian season when we realized about the difficulties many people face when it comes to practicing this sport. In many countries, it is not easy to acquire a Trials bike due to added importation costs to an already high base price. Furthermore, post-sale service and replacements are non-existent in many cases.
It was then when we thought about the famous horizontal engine which had given such good results in other type of bikes. With it we are able to ensure that the user can find spare parts easily and at a budget price, independently of the country the customer is in.
In the other hand, the importation taxes are calculated proportionally on the grounds of the price of the product + transport + insurance. Which undermines the commercialization of many high-priced products in many countries. With an affordable bike we ensure a reasonable retail price even after exportation.
Also, according to our market research (many of you will remember a landing page with a survey), it is a concept which also makes sense in mature markets such as the European one, where not all users need a high-end bike.

Once analyzed the feasibility of the Project, we validate the idea by manufacturing a prototype:

FANTOM® FT, Technical details:
- 4 stroke engine, modified for Trials, air-cooled with oil radiator.
- PWK Carburetor
- Chain 520
- Swing-arm, skid plate, rims, triple clamps and handlebar, made in aluminium
- Steel Chassis
- Progressive shock absorber
The prototype which appears in the videos has a 140cc engine with kick-start that has pleasantly surprised us due to its power, torque and traction. However, we are still working on it so that its final version incorporates a 190cc engine with electric-starter.
- The prototype weighs 72kg (158lb), but we cannot yet announce the weight of the final version.
- It will not be registrable. With it we manage to place ourselves in a much more affordable price range so that more people can afford it.
FANTOM® FT-Nòmada: With the base of the FT we offer a more versatile bike, with another transmission relation, and better autonomy thanks to its additional tank incorporated under the seat.
Will I find spare parts?
We guarantee the availability of replacements in stock in our warehouse in Barcelona. Since it is such a common engine, you will also find aftermerket spare parts in practically anywhere in the world.

*Important information for non-EU buyers: It will be sent to the closest port to your address, in Incoterm CIF. The buyer will undertake the price of the off-loading of the cargo, customs office, importation tax, final transport, and any other expenses related to international trade which may arise in different countries. Where will the contributions go to?
In this project there is no profit, we will invest all the money in developing the bike, and in industrializing the manufacturing process in order to produce and send all the rewards.
If we overcome the 100% of this campaign we have a few expanded goals, such as creating a competition department, Trials promotion actions, or expand the array with child and Enduro models. As we advance, we will publish our goals.
This Project was selected by the Banco Santander to participate in the program “Explorer, jóvenes con ideas” which took place in the espai emprèn of the UPC (Polythecnic University of Catalonia) in Castelldefels (Barcelona). Because of this we have been able to develop a solid business plan which we will be available to the interested investors in a future investment round.

Risks and challenges
The design is solid, we have done several tests and we are very satisfied with the result. We are aware that it is risky to launch a new brand in such a saturated market niche, but our challenge is to increase the TAM (Total Addressable Market) with our innovative product. Now, with your collaboration we can evolve the prototype and reach the minimum purchases required by suppliers to produce the first serie.
