My name is Erol Chandler. I am a middle school science teacher, turned woodworker. I took the long route finding my heart in the woodshop rather than the classroom. I have been building custom furniture for a few years now, and recently fell in love with designing and building lamps. I wake up every morning wanting to create and bring lamps to life. My lamps are not complex, but they are carefully constructed. The wood and parts are sourced locally and I build each one by hand in Eugene, OR.
The Type A Lamp™ is the result of my initial venture into lamp building. This lamp is a simple A-frame shape, made of hand finished eastern walnut, with small Edison-style teardrop bulb hangs from the center.
The Type O Lamp™ is my second completed design, and has proven to be very popular. A hardwood frame boxes in a perfect globe of glass and old style filaments that is operated by a high quality, nickel plated toggle switch. The vintage styled woven cotton cord works with the lamp as a finishing touch, rather than needing to be hidden. This lamp is a perfect partner for reading next to or illuminating your popcorn during date night.
I plan on personally building every Type O and Type A Lamp that will ever exist. No matter where you see a Type O Lamp™ you know who and where it was built. As a Type O owner myself, I think thats pretty cool. My dream has been to build A-Lamp Design into a national brand that remains handmade in the US and does not veer from its clean, modern lines and vintage aesthetic.
To do this, instead of scaling up to meet demand, I must limit my production to about 150 lamps per month (about 3 per state). In exchange for not possibly making a quick million dollars, I receive satisfaction from being able to focus on building carefully crafted pieces for people who really want them.
A-Lamp is very young and want you to be part of taking it to the next level. I have found my passion and I hope to share it with you. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. If you have any questions please ask away!

Risks and challenges
The only setbacks that could come up to keep me from building these lamps are illness (haven't been sick in a while), or a bulb or part supplier not coming through. I have complete confidence in my suppliers and have built good relationships with all of them. They are all located in the US so that helps!
