What is the Hot Chocolate Shaker?
As the name suggests, the Hot Chocolate Shaker is a utensil designed for shaking a hot chocolate. Shaking a hot chocolate will result in a quicker, smoother and more delicious hot chocolate with the added benefit of a little theatre.
The secret to a great hot chocolate is the formation of an emulsion between the chocolate and hot liquid. If you fail to create an emulsion, you will find your hot chocolate is weak, has poor texture and typically will have pieces of chocolate sitting at the bottom of the cup.
As artisan chocolatiers, we knew that to form an emulsion we had to create friction to bind the chocolate and hot liquid together. When we looked at stirring the chocolate and hot liquid together we found that not enough friction was being created to bind the two together.
When we started shaking a hot chocolate, we saw that it created an emulsion very quickly, however we also found that the shakers would explode resulting in chocolate all over our kitchen.
We discovered that when a hot liquid is shaken, the air trapped in the shaker warms due to the hot liquid and expands in volume. This means that a pressure is created when shaking a hot liquid.
If the shaker does not have anyway of accommodating that pressure, it will result in a hot chocolate explosion. Upon understanding this, we decided to try to develop an expanding shaker that would accommodate this pressure. We achieved this with our innovative popping lid.

How to Use The Shaker:
1. Reset the Shaker:
Resetting the shaker lid is the most important part of using the shaker. To reset the shaker, simply push the popping lid so it is in the 'Down' position. The clip below shows how this is done.
2. Filling & Shaking:
Once you have the lid ready in the Reset position. Simply follow the below steps for deliciously smooth hot chocolate in seconds. The great thing about the shaker, is you can use solid pieces of chocolate, you don't need to use powders or flakes, you can simply chop up your favourite chocolate bar and shake!
The Hot Chocolate Shaker journey started two years ago when we first came up with the idea.
We have had the tooling designed and made and run first offs, we are now looking to place our first order.
We feel that we have created a truly innovative product that looks set to shake up the hot chocolate market,

Risks and challenges
We have spent a large amount of time developing a product we are truly proud of. We have removed as much risk from this project as possible. We are now ready to go to production!
