Treehouse Festival

$11,102

188

We are hoping to reach our goal of $15,000 but $10,000 would let us pull it off.

This will pay for:

Security: This is our biggest expense next to the venue. We have around 2500 max capacity and will need to pay an outside security agency to keep us all safe. This is over half of the funds. $4000-$6000

Liability Insurance: $1500

Outdoor Stage: In order to have two stages, we will need to build an outdoor stage. This will be built next to the vendors, by two ponds and a picnic area surrounding. A 12 hour Treehouse event will be taking place on this stage. $500-$1000

Permits: $500

Amenities: We'll need water, trash cans, decor and even things like a dumpster. $1000

HELP US IN MAKING THIS THE ULTIMATE FIRST-EVER TREEHOUSE FESTIVAL.

I’m a musician and it’s what I do professionally. I’ve been making art consistently for thirteen years. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and being so, I am surrounded by so many different kinds of artists- whether that be fellow musicians, writers, actors or filmmakers. Every artist in LA trying to build their own artistic empires and have little time to pay attention to anyone else unless they happen to catch it on social media. It was a shower thought. I was literally in the shower when I thought it up. I wondered if anyone else felt this way.

I decided to post on Facebook about it. “Would anyone be interested in a small event at my house where we could showcase our art to each other?” and the response was immediately and explosively a yes.

So, the first Treehouse happened in my living room. There were around 15 artists who performed. Some were friends and some were people I had never met before. It was magic watching the audience watch the artist. They were so attentive and so there, listening, taking it in. The people who performed were so talented. I felt like I had just tapped into some alternate dimension where everyone, even the not so seeming, had something magical to offer. And because that night was such a success, It made me realize that artists don’t have enough avenues to showcase their art, the ability to network with other artists in person or a safe space to be listened to. After this, I decided to do it monthly.

TREEHOUSE TEAM
TREEHOUSE TEAM

As the months went on, and through word of mouth, it became too crowded, too many strangers to have in my own house and we had to move it. So, I decided to make Treehouse a pop-up event. Through friendly support, we were offered the Hollywood Tower rooftop. We threw the fifth one there and nearly 200 people attended. The next one was in a big backyard in Eagle Rock, then an Art Gallery in Silverlake and we even held one at Think Tank Gallery in downtown LA as part of one of their installations and 800 people showed up throughout the night.

Treehouse is completely free. We do not get charged for the spaces we use, we do not charge for admission or to perform. The most we spend is on Christmas lights to decorate the mic stand with, wine and chips.

We have been doing this for awhile now now and it’s done nothing but expand every month. People who perform or attend rave about the experience. The artists who perform are nothing short of rad and there’s almost a natural selection in that if you’re good, you play Treehouse. If you’re unprepared, you wouldn’t dare. We all collaborate to try to build the best experience possible.

We decided that we are going to put on a Treehouse Festival. This will be a curated event of all the top artists from Treehouse alongside a bigger set of acts.

This would not only acknowledge these artists with a well-marketed festival where they’ll gain large exposure to new fans and press that they wouldn’t get elsewhere but also the inspiration to become the best they can be, practice and actually follow their passions.

TREEHOUSE + WOMEN:

Treehouse started as a small pop-up night in Alex Wisner’s living room, featuring artists from the area all over Los Angeles. It now has grown to happen monthly all around LA with attendance ranging from 200-800 on any given night. Treehouse received a grant to throw a festival so now they want to bring together headlining acts, Los Angeles artists, and local vendors for one inclusive celebration of art. Treehouse is a truly safe space where people from every walk of life can be part of one larger community.

Treehouse Festival is revolutionary because it is run and planned by three women. The music industry is a space that is mostly dominated by men, and Treehouse wants to change that by increasing visibility of women in roles of importance within the industry. It is an important step forward for the women of Treehouse to be planning and running such a large festival.

The festival will take place October 15th 2016 at The Ambassador Auditorium in Los Angeles. 30+ acts, vendors, interactive displays and writing booths will be featured. Snapchat + Reverberation + Lomography Magazine will be covering the event. It will be the ultimate LA community collaboration and a hell of a fun day.

Risks and challenges

This is our first festival so we want to do it right. Our team has a combined 20+ years experience in the music industry and though we do have our heads in the right place, our dreams can exceed the reality. We're investing ourselves into this festival and if we don't make the money, we will walk away with a debt. This is worth it but not ideal. We believe in our community.
