Meet Stikato, the music stand that sticks to anything.
I'm violinist Akshay Dinakar, and I'd like you to meet my invention Stikato! Weighing just a few ounces and strong enough to support an entire binder of music, Stikato is the world's first portable music stand capable of sticking to virtually any surface.
Unlike bulky & clunky music stands, Stikato is ultralight, modern, and good for your posture: you can use it at the height that's right for you.
Stick It: Stikato attaches to surfaces with nano-suction sticky pads, which can be used thousands of times without losing their strength.
Twist Off: When you're done practicing, simply twist Stikato off the wall.
Flat Mode: Stikato instantly unfolds to become ultra-flat, so that you can slide it right into your instrument case or folder of sheet music – you'll never leave Stikato behind.
Musicians are in love with Stikato.
Stikato has been tested with top musicians across the US. Here's what they had to say:
Based on testing feedback, we've enhanced our materials to be even more durable & lightweight, and made the stand wider to hold extra-large orchestra scores.
Say goodbye to bulky & clunky music stands.
Stikato has no height limit, and is great for your posture – you can use it at the customized height that is right for your body.
The Stikato Story
I invented Stikato in order to improve the health & wellness of musicians. I've been playing violin since the age of 3, and there's nothing my violin teacher has ever said to me more than "DON'T SLOUCH."
My traditional music stand was always too short for my height, and I often forgot my flimsy portable stand when traveling. I'd end up putting my sheet music on a low table or chair and practice hunched over. And then I'd still wonder why my back hurt afterwards!
It's unfortunate that so many professional musicians spend thousands of dollars on chiropractors & medical treatment to manage their back-pain. With that in mind, I realized that practicing with proper posture wasn't just important to my personal well-being: it's critical for any serious musician who wants to play life-long.
As a recognized violinist who has been lucky to spend several years as a member of the National Youth Orchestra of the USA, a not-for-profit entrepreneur who founded Carnegie Hall's NYO-U music education platform, and a designer at Stanford University who has invented prosthetic arms for string-instrument players, I realized that this was the perfect opportunity to create a solution that could really help other musicians. And after nearly two years of prototyping & testing, I'm so excited to share Stikato with you.
My dream is to help as many musicians as possible with Stikato. The music stand has looked the same for hundreds of years, and I think it's high-time a musician designed a new, better solution for other musicians. I hope you'll join this mission of improving the health & wellness of fellow musicians, so that we can share the joy of music with the world.

Funding Goals & Guarantees
My funding goal is $3,000 - this is the minimum needed to get the manufacturing process rolling for Stikato. And we can go far above and beyond! Once we've reached the funding goal, I'll increase the reward limits, so that we can bring Stikato to even more musicians.
Timeline & Manufacturing Process
Once the Kickstarter campaign has ended, you will be emailed a survey to collect your shipping information. We plan on getting you your rewards by the end of April 2019. Free shipping within the United States.
How much weight/music can Stikato support?
Stikato is designed to support an entire binder of music (approximately 2 lbs). Stikato is wide enough to hold an open spread of sheet music. There’s extra room for your pencils, reeds, and other accessories!
Does Stikato lose stickiness over time?
If your Stikato sticky pads start to collect dust, simply rinse them for 5 seconds with warm water + air dry, and they’ll be as good as new. Our sticky pads are rated for over 600 rinse cycles. If you’re practicing twice a day, Stikato should last you 10+ years.
What is Stikato made out of?
Stikato is made from environmentally friendly MDF wood & acrylic, which allow it to be durable, yet ultralight. These materials minimize environmental impact compared to other metals and plastics used in traditional music stands.
What is Kickstarter?
What is Kickstarter? Kickstarter is not a store. Kickstarter is a way to fund projects with big goals. I am funding this project through Kickstarter because I believe there is a huge community of musicians who can be helped by Stikato.
Here’s how it works: if you are interested in the campaign, you mark down your pledge today, along with your credit card. You are not charged today. Your credit card is only charged if the campaign is successful, at which point you will be charged by Kickstarter on February 21st.

Risks and challenges
As a seasoned violinist, I know the importance of being prepared for a performance. As an experienced designer, I’m well versed in the steps required to bring a product to life. I believe in maintaining transparent communication with you, Team Stikato, for any issues that may arise.
Stikato is lucky to be partnering with Ponoko, a highly experienced laser-cutting manufacturer that specializes in Kickstarter products. Having worked with Ponoko for the past two years to build Stikato prototypes & other products, I’ve been blown away by their speed, reliability, and friendliness. They were even nice enough to write this incredibly touching feature story on Stikato. You can read it here: https://www.ponoko.com/blog/maker-success-stories/chameleon-design-stikato-music-stand-kickstarter/ .
Though I’m confident in Stikato’s production timeline, I’ve built in a few weeks of breathing room so that we can be extra sure your stands reach you on-time, fresh out of the factory.
If we happen to run into any unexpected obstacles, we’ll get through them. I’ve developed backup plans throughout Stikato’s manufacturing journey, and wouldn’t be launching the product if I wasn’t prepared. I take your support & communication very seriously and promise to keep you in the loop with what’s going on. I’ll be sharing monthly updates on the journey as I bring Stikato to you!
