Following the success of our campaigns for the K-01 in 2015 and the K-02 in 2016, we have decided to come and meet you once again on Kickstarter, with one essential goal in mind : to showcase to as many people as possible the incredible knowledge and skills of the craftsmen with whom we work.
Our new offices in Nantes!
We work in close collaboration with Maxime and Quentin, two young innovative designers who share a passion for watches. They immediately merged into the “Akrone” spirit in order to offer us these K-04 models with their sleek design. The entire collection was conceived, drawn and created by the entire team, with the exception of the watches’ movements which were carefully selected. Therefore, each model is an original creation that carries within it the recognizable DNA of the brand. All of the parts are uniquely created for Akrone following precise specifications that respect rigorous quality standards. Any Akrone customer can therefore be sure to wear a high quality watch, 100% designed in France at a floor price.
Since its creation, Akrone hasn’t ceased to diversify its stylistic orientations, guided by the desire to always offer more and more watchmaking creations. The characteristic bareness of the Bauhaus style promised to be a challenge that we couldn’t help but accept. Thus, our fourth model was born, and we offer it to you in two variations.
These two models share some specifications and details, lets have a look at these .
The materials that were used to make this watch, which come from the highest quality watchmaking, are of a flawless quality. The case is made from classic and robust 316L steel, with a very detailed finish that alternates between brushed and polished.
The glass is made of a reputedly scratchproof sapphire crystal.
The movement is a 2892 from ETA with a TOP finish which is characterised, among other things, by superior quality components that insure a greater reliability than the standard movement. You’ll be able to contemplate it’s remarkable details : cotes de Genève, blue-tinted screws…
The oscillating mass was fine-tuned by a Swiss workshop, the openwork bottom allows you to enjoy the beauty of the movement.
The movement is adjusted in the workshop on 5 positions, for an optimum level of tuning for your watch.
The Viper version is equipped with the same movement, set to the “COSC” standards. Each watch is numbered during the process of fine-tuning. This allows them to be authenticated during their certification. The certification uses both the watch’s and the movement’s serial number.
To bring our projects to life, we work in close collaboration with several leather workshops based in France. They fashion the different bracelets for us, as well as small bespoke leatherwork.
We selected these craftsmen for the quality workmanship of their products and the minute care that they bring to each of their creations.
Since its creation, Akrone has made limited edition variations of its collections. It’s one of our trademarks, and our two limited editions of the K-04 are no exception.
Only 100 copies of the Métiers d’Art exist, numbered from 1 to 100. Each one is bestowed with a unique hand engraving, making it different from all 99 others. Furthermore, you can choose the colour of your watch’s second hand so that you can add your own personal touch to your K-04.
We apply the “first come, first serve” principle for the choice of personalisations (oscillating mass and second hand colours) and serial numbers.
Our watches go through rigorous tests following a drastic list of specifications, that we carefully established before they leave their assembly workshop. Our team of horologists are established in France and we are very proud to work with them.
Since the beginning of our adventure we tought we had to propose packaging different than what we have seen before . We want it to be nice but reusable as well . The leather pouch is made in Nantes, close to our office, the wood box is made in Jura , and the print is made in France with the serigraphy technique, which is known to be the best .
Talented engraver, Thomas Brac partnered with Akrone for this special project. He freely and respectfully reinvents the art of traditional Japanese tattoos thanks to his personal vision and French know-how. This is how we celebrate in our own way the hundred and sixtieth anniversary of the French-Japanese Treaty of Amity and Commerce.
Please note that on this version the finish of the case (the part where we have the engraving) is sandblasted finish . The Ring on the top is polished and the backcase as well . It gives a nice contrast.
The mat white dial imitates the texture of Japanese paper. The discrete logo and hand-applied pointers add a touch of sobriety.
Minutes markers are engraved , we have applied hours indexes. The Akrone logo and the "Métiers d'art" are engraved on the dial.
As each watch will be assembled after Kickstarter, we offer you to choose the color that you prefer for your Rotor. But be aware that its a limited edition and we only have limited quantities of each color so if you want to be sure to get yours , don't hesitate too much !
You can customize the second hand by choosing among the following colours (following the principle of “first come, first serve”)
A questionnaire will be sent to you by email to validate your options once the kickstarter is finished. Warning, beyond this date all cancellations will be charged a fee.
Please note that it is quite difficult for us to show clearly the difference with each second hands . For example the blue is dark (like flame blued) . This is why you will have a bit more time to choose what you prefer (after the end of KS), as we will make more pictures and videos in the next few days.
The engravings are inspired by traditional Japanese tattoos . Actually, the idea came as we thought it would look amazing on a watch, to show Thomas engraving work with a different type of drawing than he usually do on jewelry.
Japanese tattoos design came into our mind with the idea that we would like to have a nice looking and modern engraving on our K-04. We already love theses designs and the team is passionate about it, so Thomas has been working on a unique design of traditional Japanese tattoos to engrave on this thin side of the watch .
You will find 3 important elements : the Samourai mask , the dragon and the Lotus . In Japanese culture the dragon represent strength, ferocity, wealth, The Samourai mask is for Protection , The lotus for Purity , and the waves (on the other side of the watch) represent movement, strength, fluidity, life. Of course they can have other meanings in other cultures.
Like any tattoo , you can choose to reveal it or to hide it , thats the beauty of this engraving design on your future watch !
Your Métiers d'art watch will wear a nice genuine leather strap made in France with a unique hand made patina made by our partner Pierre-Yves . The look is just amazing and his work takes 45min on each strap for this special result.
The Viper certification is delivered by the Besançon observatory. A sign of excellence and quality!
It’s subtly shaded smoked emerald green dial gets darker as it gets close to the edges.
Get something exclusive and rare. As the Certification is very difficult to get, we only have 21 pieces for order (on 50 pieces that were sent to the institute). The backcase of the watch is individualy numbered for example : 18/50 with a see threw glass. The rotor is Gun metal color and contrary to the other edition you can't choose the color .
The Viper certification is delivered by the Besançon observatory to certain select brands. It is granted to each watch individually, on the condition that it can demonstrate an exceptional chronometric precision that follows the drastic required standards. The certification guarantees that the client has purchased a perfectly tuned and reliable watch. In the last 12 years, the Besançon observatory has certified fewer than 600 watches in the whole world.
The Viper is subjected to 16 consecutive days of testing in order to guarantee a near-perfect level of precision for a mechanical watch.
Your Vipere watch will wear a nice genuine leather strap made in france with a unique hand made patina made by our partner Pierre-Yves . The look is just amazing and his work takes 45min on each strap for this special result.
We partnered with craftsmen from Nantes who share our values and work ethic.
Pierre-Yves Master polisher who hand-polishes the bracelets of these two watches. One hour’s work per bracelet is necessary for Pierre-Yves to get the magnificent patina that gives them their distinctive shine.
Thomas Brac Engraver and designer by training engraves by hand each of the 100 K-04 Métiers d’Art pieces following a same model, but at the same time offering a unique finish. Which represents several hours of work per watch. Only around fifteen people in France are capable of producing such work. You can admire a wealth of details in the engravings, which pay hommage to various Japanese ancestral traditions.
Created by Isabelle Pierrès, a stylist from Nantes, the workshop offers small leatherwork goods and diverse premium quality accessories. The 2 sleeves specially designed for the K-04 in superbe leather pieces are a choice housing for your watch. A blue camel zipped version exists for the Viper and a zipped white version will accompany the Métiers d’Art, as a reminder of the dial colour. This pouch was designed as a reusable everyday accessory.
1/ Please note that you need to choose one package between those below . The only difference is the Rotor color and if you are living in Europe or Outside (so you wont pay French VAT) .
2/ When the order will be validated after the end of the kickstarter, we will send every backers a sheet form so you will tell us your choice for the hand color and more details about the delivery adress etc . So you don't need to choose your Second hand color now .
Well, we already started working on production of these two beauties. The Vipere (only 21 pieces) is already at our office waiting for their owner so as soon as the KS is finished, 15 days later we will be able to send the watches. For the Métiers d'art , its a bit different as Thomas is still engraving the 100 pieces . Moreover, we will assemble the different hands and rotor that you choosed so we will deliver a bit later beginning December ! PERFECT FOR CHRISTMAS !!
