06/03/2014: After just 17 hours we have hit our primary target.
The Swords of Edo visual novel game is set in alternate reality where Japan never opened its borders and remained an isolated country, in this country things are very different to what we would expect, magic still lingers in the air, strange creatures roam the wastes and powerful warriors & samurai still hold power in Edo.
Edo society has reached a boiling point, factions are arising, seeking to destroy the council of nobles and the Lord Regent (their leader). Terrorist attacks have rocked the land and unrest is growing. Asumi as the newest Justicar, has been dispatched undercover to a prestigous Samurai Academy that has been linked to recent bombings.
The academy has a variety of students, all working to hone their skills so that they can join some of the more elite positions or even become Samurai Justicars themselves...
"Justicar" - A peacekeeper in Edo society. Appointed and given arbitrary power to act as they see fit to maintain peace within Edo and the Realm, beholden onto no-one.
During the game you will get to make both minor choices such as what clothes to wear, as well as major decisions such as who to kill and who to spare, each decision will have an effect on the story that unfolds.
A playable demo showcasing the 'first day' within the game is currently being finalised for our backers to try out, in the meantime please take a look at these screenshots from the game.
When the demo is available we will announce it via a campaign update.
We have created a series of great anime style backdrops for the game, the funds from this campaign will also expand on these creating new CG artwork to set the scenes in a more meaningful way. Here are some example backdrops from the game:
In addition to the amazing backdrops and existing artwork we have an array of music from various talented artists and composers. Of which we have included a selection of tracks from the game for you to enjoy, below:
This visual novel game was set-up to be a stand alone story based in the same world as a series of graphic novels of the same name. The graphic novel series is now close to completion with an Anthology book in final stage development.
More details on the graphic novels can be found on the primary website for the Swords of Edo series(www.swordsofedo.com). You can also include the graphic novel in digital or printed form as an add-on for your pledge if you wish.
The decision to launch this additional crowd-funding campaign for the game was carefully considered and based on our goals we felt this was the best path for us.
Kickstarter ensures that only if our ideas and goals are popular will we succeed, if they do then it will ensure new artwork and content will be added to the game, however if it doesn't succeed the game will still be created with the funds already raised.
Our Stretch Goals
We have managed to reach the primary goal & first eight stretch goals, ensuring that we will release a Mac and Linux version of the game and be able to include additional CG artwork within the game as well as a fourth relationship possibility. But there are still more to reach...

This campaign is aiming to raise funds for an expansion to the current development, specifically funding more development on the artwork, CG scenes and musical score.

The poster will be dispatched direct from the manufacturer at the campaigns conclusion and is 43.9cm x 28.6cm in size.
T-shirtsWe also have a series of different designs available for you to choose from if you decide to pledge for a T-shirt, at the campaigns end you can select via the surveys the size and design you prefer.

Finally in addition to all of the great phyical rewards listed here and game rewards listed to the right, we have a few special items that are also available as unique special item rewards.
Each of which invariably comes with access to the game and physical copies, other extras will be listed on the reward option on the right.
Our recently successful campaign to produce a limited run series of 50 8" Rei figurines, finished leaving a few still available for backer to receive. These are currently in production so this could well be one of the last chances to receive these very rare figurines.
We have recently received the clay prototype of the base figurine of Rei, images of which are below, as the production continues we will bring new images for our backers to enjoy.
We have a variety of stand-alone reward levels in this campaign, however if you want to include one of these stand-alone rewards with a different pledge level then all you need to do is add that reward level amount on top of your chosen reward.

At the campaigns conclusion surveys will allow you to select what extra items you have chosen. Kickstarter doesn't take any payments until the campaigns end, and then only if we reached or exceeded our target, so you can alter your pledge level as much as you like up until the very end.

The game is already in its Beta testing phase, so beta backers will begin receiving access as soon as the campaign ends. Any physical rewards will be created once the funds have transferred and will be shipped direct to our backers from our manufacturers where possible.

Risks and challenges
So far to date we have raised funds for the game using both crowd-funding and private funding, but as development has continued we have gained new supporters and been given even more ideas.
We are now at the beta testing stage of development, we have dedicated programmers, artists and writers working on the games completion. And regardless of how this campaign does they will continue to work to bring out the game we have been developing.
Whatever happens our aim is to release version 1.0 (pre-expansion/late beta) around the end of April, after which if this campaign is successfull we will begin incorporating new artwork, CG assets and gameplay as per our goals for a version 2.0 release nearer the end of the year.
So it is our hope that we might have our cake and eat it too... (I love cake). The games main features are now functional, giving us a unique position where extra funds in these final stages could really help us polish the game to a gem and expand its platform availability.
Because we have funded the development of the game via other campaigns we know that whatever happens the game will be built, but it is our hope that this campaigns success will open up the doors to an even bigger, prettier and more enjoyable game for all of our backers and supporters both past, present and in the future.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
