Latest News: Echo Tokyo has now been greenlit, all £25+ backers will get steam keys when the game is completed.
About the Campaign
The aim of this campaign is to fund a new visual novel game experience set in a cyber punk dystopian future. The game will be for PC, Mac and Linux with the aim to release the finished game near the end of 2015.
In addition to the game (and part of it) we will also be creating a full color graphic novel story featuring the main characters from the game.
In an unknown future, the city known only as 'Echo Tokyo' survives the radiation of a nuclear cloud that covers the streets by living in the massive skyscrapers. Building bridges and platforms above the cloud, creating a new city in the sky where the air is clean.
There will be two protagonists within the game...
Shizume Misaki and Light Keiji, each one offering a different view on the city and a different story-line. The two story-lines can be played either simultaneously or one after the other, the two combining together to provide the full story of Echo Tokyo.
You will take control of these as they work within Echo Tokyo trying to build their own position and reputation. Shizume works as a private investigator whilst Keiji is an assassin and thief for hire.
Graphic Novel Intro
Part of the funds from this campaign will be used to create the artwork for the graphic novel for the series. The graphic novel sections will be used to introduce the characters and if funding goes well also create the unique endings for each character as well.
In addition the pages will be put together to create a short graphic novel of the characters for you to enjoy in PDF format as well as within the game itself.
Plans for the Game
Our primary aim for the game is to create a large world for players to explore. As Shizume & Keiji you will be able to explore the city freely, each day you can choose what you want to do, however you will have a variety of things you will need to keep track of as you play.
Resources such as money, endurance and strength will be ever prevalent in the game, exploring the city may result in random encounters and events but if you don't take jobs investigating things as Shizume or 'killing' for Keiji then you won't have money for food.
Beyond the ability to explore the city, meet people and romance some of them. You will be able to take jobs for clients, this will involve mini games where you will investigate a scene or search out a target and draw conclusions so that you can explore new locations to complete the job at hand.
Echo Tokyo has now been accepted through Steam's Greenlight service. As such all £25+ backers will receive a steam key when the game is completed. Steam edition will also launch several weeks earlier than the DRM free edition.
In addition we will be conducting the beta testing which instant access backers will have access to through Steam, which will give all participants access to incremental regular updates, easy bug posting and discussion forums for the game.
Risks and challenges
Thanks to our experience in the past working on graphic novels and visual novel games, we already have a huge array of contacts and people working with us, all of which helps to mitigate the risks that might be encountered when creating a game or graphic novel of this type.
As with our past successful projects I will be acting as the overseer ensuring all the different people are producing the best possible content, and then fitting it together as fast as possible. Our goal for this game and graphic novel is to create the best possible story-line in a polished and enjoyable way.
All of my past experience should ensure we can provide a great game and graphic novel series and the more funds we raise will mean a bigger and better experience for all of our backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
