We are aiming to complete a series of colour graphic novels set in an alternate realm; where the Shogunate never lost power altering the modern world significantly.
Each goal we reach will ensure more sections of the main storyline are created to fully explore this alternate world sooner rather than over a longer period of time.
The graphic novel will be split up into several issues, which when complete will tell not only the main story but also give background on the various characters of the series.
Such as Asumi (The Assassin):
Self publishing the novel ensures the stories are as we envision them, it also allows us to release them in a paperback & hardback format plus as a direct downloadable digital version to suit your budget.
This will have the added benefit of keeping the publishing costs down so that the novels are larger as the majority of funds can be directed towards the artists rather than to publishers and agents.
The first volume will include several separate issues. Each issue will include different characters as well as the larger on-going storyline.
The first volume will focus on four female warriors who are the 'Justicars' of Edo (defenders) as they protect Edo from a conspiracy. The conspiracy will lead them in different directions to discover the truth.
The images we have included depict a short story showing the character of Asumi as she performs one of her missions as a death dealer (assassin) which will be included in the 'Meet the Samurai' issue of volume one.
The initial goal ensured the first issue will be completed which includes the first part of the Swords of Edo storyline.
If we can reach high enough then we will be able to begin production of a series of 8" Vinyl Figurines depicting the warriors with manufacturer HK-Gensen and artist Nick Beja; concepts for which are below:
Visual Novel Game
As with most parts of the campaign we will be developing a visual novel game for Swords of Edo, however how quickly this is produced will be based on the stretch goals. Reaching the initial stretch goal will ensure the artwork is put into immediate development.
The Swords of Edo - A collection of weapon masters within Edo.
You will play as one of the swords as you work to uncover a subversive group working against the Justicars and the realm of Edo and its people.
Asumi, the straight blade assassin, has transferred to the Eldelantai Academy on the fringes of Edo, following a lead linking the group to the area. Forced undercover she must act the part of a student in order to find the group and thwart their plans before its too late.
The game will illustrate a new storyline not included in the graphic novels, with multiple pathways including good, bad, romantic and strange endings. As well as an easy to play Ecchi battle system and 'optional' Ecchi romance scenes.
You can checkout our short prototype in html5 for the game here:
If we can achieve the stretch goal for the game then everyone who has pledged at the £50 reward tier or higher will receive a copy of the game when it is complete.
Each goal we reach will help bring the completed volume closer as it will allow us to immediately commission the required artwork for each issue from our artists and cover the necessary printing costs.
Our primary stretch goals have now been met and are working towards these additional goals for yet more content to be added to the series.
Main story: Each issue will feature a section of the main story of volume 1, featuring each of the four Justicars of Edo as they take different roles in thwarting a conspiracy against Edo's Lord Regent.
Sub stories: Each issue will also include some mini-stories following the main characters and other people from the world of Edo, such as the Dark Deeds mini story included in this campaign.
Volume 1: All four issues of the series and all sub stories will be created regardless of the campaigns final result, however the more goals we reach the faster the final volume will be created and sent out.
8" Vinyl Figurines: If we manage to reach the 5K target then we will be able to create a prototype figurine while we can then make available to fans of the series via our website at the campaigns conclusion. Thanks to kickstarter it will ensure we can offer the figurines at an exceptionally low price.
SoE Computer Game: At this level we will be able to commission new art to create a Swords of Edo visual novel which will follow a new storyline within the universe.
Over 6k - If we exceed 6k then we have more possibilities to give you such as extra figurines, trading cards & funding for more volumes.
These bonus options are available to anyone as long as you increase your pledge by the amount listed (after postage costs are added) if unsure message me first.

Risks and challenges
At the conclusion of this campaign the main work to be performed will be by the artists to turn the stories that I already created & completed into the final graphic novels. The funds raised here will allow the artists to not only complete these novels but also create additional art and merchandise for the community to enjoy.
With the exceptional artists and other people involved in this campaign we will be able to meet all of the rewards without it affecting the development of the last campaign I completed (Spatial Flux) earlier in the year or delaying these rewards from reaching our backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
