Spread the word! Adopt-a-County! Help Caucus Get to Theatres.

Hi everyone,

We're working hard to do a bunch of screenings of Caucus this fall, including theatrical runs in New York, DC, Iowa and a few other spots.  In addition, we've got some great film festivals on the horizon (including our 2nd ever US fest, the Camden International Film Festival in Camden, ME this weekend).

We're about to hit a make-or-break point for our plans.  There are some immediate needs (DCPs, trailers, posters, publicity) that we need to take care of right now.  So we're asking you to help us spread the word about our fund raising efforts to launch Caucus this fall.

Right now, we are 1/5 of the way to our goal of having folks adopt all of Iowa's famed 99 counties.  If you can, or if you know of a film lover / political junkie who can, support the film with $99, we will save some tickets for you at the Iowa (or New York or DC or LA or hopefully local to where you are) premiere, we'll also make sure you get a DVD and some other souvenirs from the Iowa campaign trail.

Just go to our website and head on over the support page to contribute.  We will get right back to you about your choice of counties.  Or feel free to respond here or by email with any questions - or to see if a specific county is still available.

Even if you can't adopt a county, a smaller contribution of support is really appreciated right now.  And even if you can't do that, spreading the word about our efforts would be an incredible boost to this effort.

We've assembled a terrific team to help get the film out and anything you can do to help make this a reality is absolutely valued right now.

Again, just go to www.caucusfilm.com and you can support us directly there.

Thanks and we look forward to sharing big news with you soon.

Yours,

AJ Schnack

You can help support Caucus screenings this fall

Hello to all the supporters of our efforts last summer!

As you may have heard, we finished Caucus and had a wonderful world premiere at the Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto in May, followed by a pretty extraordinary US Premiere as the Closing Night Film at the inaugural AFI Docs in June.

During both festivals, we received a lot of great press.  Geoff Pevere of the Toronto Globe & Mail gave us 3 1/2 stars (out of four) and said Caucus was "an expertly assembled old-school verité-style political doc in the tradition of Primary and The War Room".  Jennie Punter, who writes for Variety, tweeted "You know the ending but you don't know the story and its drama until you watch (the) rip-roaring Caucus".  Chris Cillizza, who writes the Washington Post's influential The Fix blog (and is a regular fixture on MSNBC) has written about the film twice, calling it terrific and saying, "If it comes to a theater anywhere near you, go see it. You won't be sorry."

Which brings us back to writing to you and asking if you'll take the support you gave us last year and help us now.

When you signed up to be on our team last summer, you did so with little footage to look at and no real way of knowing what our finished film would look like.  Your faith in our efforts was really inspiring.  Now, some of you have had a chance to see the film, and we hope the rest will check out the trailer and read some of our press - we think you'll agree that your early support wasn't in vain.

We're working hard to arrange screenings of Caucus in Iowa, New York, DC and several other cities across the country. We've assembled an amazing team of folks and we just need support getting the film out for these special screenings and theatrical bookings.

We're not doing the Kickstarter thing this time - you can actually go directly to the Caucus website, where you can see a brand new trailer for the film, and support our efforts.  There are three ways to do this:

1.) Adopt and Iowa County. Because so many people were excited to adopt one of Iowa's 99 counties, you'll be able to dive back in and try to reclaim your adopted Iowa homeland and pick up some new turf.  We'll also make sure you have 2 tickets to the Iowa premiere of Caucus (or a screening nearer to you), a copy of Caucus on DVD and some Iowa souvenirs.

2.) Pre-order the film.  We'll send you your choice of a Caucus DVD or an online link to watch the film along with something special from the filmmakers.

3.) Support the film.  Any amount is greatly appreciated.  You'll be among the first to know about film screenings, DVD and digital release plans and special discounts.

Also, we hope you'll follow Caucus on twitter and like us on Facebook, where we will post the latest info about our campaign to screen the film this fall.

Thanks for considering supporting Caucus once more and we're excited for those of you who haven't seen the film to check it out soon.

We want to hear from you - let us know if you have any questions, thoughts, etc.

World Premiere at Hot Docs/Trailer & Website

Hey everyone,

Once again, thanks so much for supporting Caucus during our Kickstarter push last summer.  We're so excited to announce that we're going to have our World Premiere at Hot Docs in Toronto AND that we've just launched our website, with our first teaser trailer.

Here's the link to the Hot Docs announcement:

And you can check out our trailer and site here:

We'll be letting you know soon about our US Premiere, which we're over the moon about.

Thanks again for your support and we can't wait for you to see the film.

Yours,

AJ

Well, we didn't make it, but...

Hey everyone,

First off, I just want to say thanks so much for your support during our Kickstarter campaign.  Knowing that you were backing this project specifically and my work generally was a great, great bit of inspiration around these parts.  The folks at Kickstarter were amazing, too, giving us lots of attention and support.  We really appreciate it all.

As you've no doubt know by now, we weren't successful in reaching our goal.  However, some really great things came out of our campaign, not least was the fact that we were making the project more public, particularly in Iowa, where we filmed.  Some of these conversations that are starting to happen offline are about fund raising, and we're going to keep pursuing those leads in the coming weeks.

We also learned a bit about timing and we realized, as we mentioned in one of our earlier updates, that trying to get the film out during the hot election cycle, as had been our original goal, was probably not the best idea.  With the political day focused on whatever gaffe or issue or debate or sideshow of the moment, we realized that getting people to focus on the Iowa story from 2011 to early 2012 would be a challenge.

So we're looking ahead to 2013 when the film will premiere in the warm afterglow of either Obama or Romney's inauguration and when folks are ready for a post-mortem on the political season we all just went through.

We're still going to need help getting money for our post-production process - as we said in our video, we don't have a Super PAC of our own - and we hope that our failed first attempt won't discourage you from supporting us in the future.  Give us a few weeks to follow some leads and then we'll reach back out to you.  We still want you to adopt your counties, get your posters and send you stuff from Iowa.  And if you know of others that we should reach out to in the meantime, please don't hesitate to let us know.

But mostly, just know that we won't forget your support and generosity.  You're the best.  And we hope you'll stick with us in the coming months.

Have a great end of summer,

AJ

Project of the Day, 36 Hours to Go and a New Reward!

Hey everyone,

Once again, thanks so much for all your support.  Apologies for not thanking some of our most recent backers individually - we're doing our best to get the word out as we head into the final stretch.  Yesterday we were live on WHO Radio in Des Moines, talking about the film, and as we mentioned in our last update, the Des Moines Register had an article about the film and this campaign in yesterday's paper.

There's just 36 hours to go and we are still a ways from our goal.  We could really use your help in this final push.  As a reminder, if we don't reach our goal, we get zero, zilch, nothing, so please join us in helping to get us to the finish line.

We are thrilled that Kickstarter has named us the Project of the Day!!  This is amazing news and hopefully will be just the thing we need to push us forward.

Finally, we're super excited that the amazing Iowa-based company, Raygun, has created a new, 2012 version of their "Rock Out With Your Caucus Out" T-shirt to coincide with our Kickstarter campaign.  We're adding it as a new, last minute reward level.

Once again, thanks so much for your support.  It means the world to us.

Yours,

AJ
