About this project
SO, WHO THE HECK ARE YOU? Our names are Nick, Jordan, Bijan, Richard, Pete, Ally, Brian, and Al. We are a team of friends who love music and good food. Over the last few years, we've been working towards the dream of operating a place of our own - a live music venue and restaurant where we can offer quality eats and awesome shows.
We are planning to re-open "The Five Spot" in Little Five Points as AISLE 5. Our team is asking for your support to help us achieve our vision, on time and without cutting corners.
We plan to continue to produce some of the best live entertainment Atlanta has to offer. We will locally source our ingredients whenever possible and never use GMOs. We will be active in the community and consciously limit our environmental impact.
We also plan to create roughly 20 new jobs.
Our team would sincerely appreciate your support, and in return we'll be able to give you some fun stuff like free tickets or a meal as our way of saying "THANK YOU, FROM AISLE 5!"
WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE OLD PLACE?
When we purchased The Five Spot, we knew that the space needed some TLC before it re-opened to the public. To accomplish our goal of creating the best room possible, we identified three crucial (and expensive!) things that had to be fixed:
- AIR CONDITIONING
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Let's be honest - if you've seen a show here before you know how overly hot it could get inside. When it's cooler outside than inside during the summer in Atlanta, you know you have a problem!
We felt it was important to forgo our grandfathering clause and improve the floorplan by installing new, bigger bathrooms and a front entrance that are ADA-compliant and accessible to everyone.
We want every guest to be safe, clean and comfortable when they come see a show in Little 5 Points. By joining the "clean-up on Aisle 5" with your generous contribution, you will help install safe, appropriate power service and create these new amenities for us all to enjoy.
SO WHAT'S YOUR VISION FOR THE SPACE?
The former establishment was a great place to discover local and national talent across many different genres of music. Sure, it was hot and a bit grungy in there...but we still loved the place. Our company produced its first live show there. One of us met our girlfriend there. We loved hanging out in that big parking lot on summer nights and maybe you did, too. So we scraped together our money, partnered up, and bought the place before it was turned into another boutique clothing store or simply lost to the ages altogether.
We will continue with some of the things the space was known for and remain "genre-neutral," so to speak - we will feature rock, electronic, jazz, hip-hop, funk, acoustic acts and everything in between. We want to make these shows sound and look even more amazing. One of the former Head of Sound engineers at the Tabernacle is on our team and ready to go...and he's a mad scientist.
We want to keep the spirit of the place alive, but we want to do things better. Cleaner. Tastier. LOUDER.
HOW FAR ALONG ARE YOU?
After attending lots of meetings over the last 10 months, we were able to get a unanimous approval from the Inman Park Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU-N) on our business and floor plans. On November 12th, 2013 at Atlanta City Hall, we were officially approved by the Liquor License Review Board. Full steam ahead!
We are lucky and grateful to have some amazing people put their faith and dollars into Aisle 5. Through our own investment and pledged from family and friends, we have roughly 80% of the total goal to complete the project on our current budget and without compromising our vision.
Every dollar of every contribution will go towards building an amazing venue and creating jobs for some awesome folks who are passionate about music and food. We're really excited about these rewards we can offer for your support (more details can be found on the right hand side of this page).

Risks and challenges
THE CLEAN-UP: The project's goal is to be re-opened in March of 2014 before St. Patrick's Day, but any construction project is subject to delays. All of our backers will receive updates on the progress of Aisle 5, making you the first to know all the latest news about our comeback.
As long as we secure funding and pass our fire and health code inspections, we do not anticipate any significant roadblocks to our proposed opening date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
