In the 1930s, pulp fiction introduced dozens of amazing heroes to the world. Dozens of hero pulps of various success filled the racks alongside numerous other titles. Those characters formed a lasting impression on society and are still remembered fondly to this day.
In the 1970s and 1980s, men’s adventure fiction introduced dozens of new characters and properties that captured the minds of readers young and old. Sex and violence became the new norm. They influenced heavily the decades of fiction since, even as the “exploitation” films of the same era helped to shape cinema.
Metahuman Press is proud to take these two disparate eras and combine them into Pulpsploitation, a new era of pulp adventure fiction. Helmed by writer/editor Nicholas Ahlhelm and aided and abetted by writers Teel James Glenn, Frank Byrns and Steven Gepp, Pulpsploitation combines the grand heroic tradition of the pulps with the storytelling of the men’s adventure era to create a new hybrid of great fiction unlike anything else on the market.
We’ve created the first step into this era with a new anthology. But with your help, we can turn that single anthology into a new quarterly series of original novels starring these characters and dozens more. We want to see an entire line of great stories set in the early 1980s. Pulpsploitation bring new takes to old characters as well as original characters in the classic pulp vein.
The first anthology features four stories reviving classic pulp and pulp-style comic characters:
Teel James Glenn revives the obscure pulp hero, The Gunmaster, a master of the original gun based martial arts! The Gunmaster may not be well known yet, but learn more about The Gunmaster here.
Frank Byrns introduces the legacy of The Black Bat, as a new hero takes up the mantle of one of the earliest masked vigilantes.
Steven Gepp brings the long-lived jungle lord Tabu into the 1980s for a brand new adventure.
Nicholas Ahlhelm tells a tale of Airboy, as he’s pulled out of the Airtomb into new escapades alongside classic allies and a new generation of aviation heroes! Learn more about his story here!
Now we need the final money to guarantee we can secure quality cover art, pay our creators and set up a new universe of adventure fiction in a series of novels and short stories for years to come!
Those four characters make up the backbone of the Pulpsploitation Universe, but they are far from alone. Original novels and bonus stories featuring these characters and a spectrum of heroes new and old are all available as stretch goals past our initial goal. We will reveal more as we go along but here's our first few!
With your help, Pulpsploitation can take the publishing world by storm and reinvigorate the entire men's adventure and pulp markets! With your support we can make great new fiction for years to come.
