We were featured on TXA 21 on FYI Fort Worth. Take a look at the segment here:
Writer/director David Ahearn begins his latest film journey by taking to Kickstarter to raise the funds for his current project. Join the revolution and contribute. We need your help to fund our film project. For those of you that have been fans of Four Day Weekend Comedy and want to be a part of our next film project, now is your chance. We want you to join us in making this film by donating as little as $5 or as much as $10,000. We need to hit our goal of $125,000 in order to make this film and we only have 60 days to do it. We have to raise every dime of our goal or else we don't get any of the funds that we raise and your credit card WILL NOT be charged. So the only way your card will be charged is if we are making the movie.
We have been fortunate to have many of you as fans of our show, Four Day Weekend. Because of our wonderful fans we have gotten to do what we love for the past 15 years and we have more than 4,000 shows under our belt, we performed as keynote speakers for The United States Congress and met the President and we were awarded with the key to the city of Fort Worth for being "the city's greatest ambassadors." We started our show with little more than passion and the desire to entertain people and that passion has allowed us to create one of the longest running shows in the Southwest. So, we are asking you for your support once again. If you can contribute as little as $5 to our film we will make a great film that you can say you were a part of creating. Join the revolution and along the way get some great Four Day Weekend rewards.
WHY THIS FILM (by David Ahearn)
When I was in my 20s I was very taken with French cinema. I loved their style of deliberate story telling that allowed a story to unfold very naturally. During the French New Wave they made films that breathed and often times wouldn't tie up loose ends for the viewer but they would leave the viewer really feeling something and even contemplating the greater meanings of life. My goal was to emulate some of those great filmmakers from that era and create a film that moved people as much as I was moved by some of those great French film classics.
I have had the great fortune to shoot three short films and they have been some of the great joys of my life. All 3 were comedies and I have learned so much from each of them. On the first film I ever shot, I came to realize that I didn't know anything about how to capture images in order to tell a story. This frightened me so much that on the next film I studied and prepared and I was lucky enough to win a couple of film festivals. On my third project, I started finding my voice a little bit more and we got some recognition from the studios in Los Angeles. But the most important thing I learned on my third film was that no one can make a film alone. It takes a huge team of actors, cinematographers, technicians, production crew and people like you that are generous enough to give money to make a film a reality.
When I decided to embark on my first attempt at a feature film I wanted to depart from comedy. It interested me to tackle a drama to stretch myself creatively. When I conceived of this film I was very taken with the idea that sometimes when we are thrust into an extreme situation we can find that someone we may have initially dismissed as a "bad" person can suddenly become one of the most humane and loving people we might have ever come across.
The story is about a much older man, someone with the scars of life that show on his face and in his expression. He is thrust into a less than ideal situation when he abducts a young girl in her early 20s in order to escape capture following a botched bank robbery. This young woman has only recently started acquiring her own life scars and she finds in this man a kindred soul that sees her for her truest self. On their journey, the two overcome their less than ideal circumstances and fall in love. This story very deliberately reveals two people, from seemingly different worlds, finding a connection of common humanity that culminates with an uncertainty that only life brings. This story is the essence of Agape Love, which is love at the level of the soul. It is love that makes no rational sense yet is so strong and so powerful that it is simply undeniable.
So, why help us fund this film? Because this is a film that simply would not get made in the Hollywood system. How do I know this? Because believe me, we tried to sell it to the studios. Each step along the way we were told, "We really like the script but there is no one in Hollywood that will make this picture. People want to see young people in movies, not guys nearly 60 and people certainly don't want to watch a guy in his 60s fall in love with a woman in her 20s." Obviously, these guys had never heard of the Rolling Stones. I believe differently. I believe people long to see "real" people in the movies and I also have come to know that some of the very best movies that have ever been made were at first rejected by Hollywood. Although this was a setback I decided to search for a unconventional way to make this film. Enter Kickstarter.
This is a revolutionary new way to raise money for films. It allows all of us to come together and join forces to tell a story. If you've ever had the desire to be a part of making a feature film you can do so for the price of a cup of coffee. I strongly believe that using kickstarter is going to become commonplace in the world of independent film. It will forever change the paradigm for independent film funding and because of it we will be fortunate that more great works of art will be brought to life. I've learned it takes an army to make a film, and I would be honored and privileged if you would join our team in making the feature film "run."
I'm excited about making this film. I'm excited that you'd even consider joining me on this journey by contributing to make it happen. I look forward to meeting you face to face at a premiere of our film in the Four Day Weekend Theater. We'll have as many screenings as necessary to give everyone the chance to see the film that we made together.
Wishing you continued success and prosperity in all of your endeavors.
HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE USED
Every dime we raise will be used to fund this film. The budget of Hollywood feature films can range from $10 million to $250 million but obviously independent features do not have this kind of equity. On our independent feature, we intend to use all of the contacts and resources that we have attained over the course of our 15 year run of our show to make this film a reality. This means that very talented professional filmmakers have agreed to work for a fraction of what they would make on a Hollywood production. The funds we raise will go to paying these very talented professionals to make this film the very best it can be. Every dollar we raise over our goal will go towards the production of the film. The producers and the director will not receive any monetary compensation for this film. So the money that you so generously contribute will go directly into the pictures you'll see on the screen. The more money we raise, the prettier the pictures will be. Contribute today and watch the frames of this film that you made possible come to life.
