The Ambrov X story is a multi-layered web of passion, intrigue and conflict. At its core stand you and your companion, Sime and Gen, bound by the life force that you give or take in an unending cycle. It is the story of how you and your companion confront impossible odds in a universe that may hate and fear you.
The Ambrov X story places you on the Unity One, Earth's most advanced Starship, tasked with planting beacons which allow for FTL travel. However, in reality, you are on a covert mission to discover the truth behind Jumper 10 -- the ill-fated predecessor of the Unity One, which returned to Earth with only one crew member alive. While on this covert mission you discover an ancient alien space station, dormant for thousands of years. While the truth about Jumper 10 lies within the station, there is a greater truth that threatens to divide Sime and Gen -- potentially ending an alliance that has stood for over 350 years.
In the end, it is you and your companion against a hostile universe. If the two of you cannot survive the truth, no one can.

Ambrov X has been designed following four gameplay pillars. These four pillars will continue to drive everything we do from Day One until Launch.
A Rich and Unique Science Fiction Universe. The Sime~Gen Universe has been painstakingly honed since the late 1960's. The 12 Pre-Intersetellar Era Novels take place on an Earth that is familiar but also quite different than our own. But Ambrov X will launch this world into the Interstellar Era, making it equally accessible to long-time fans and those who are first hearing about it here. You will discover "strange new worlds," space stations and starships in a breath-taking universe full of life where magic, politics, intrigue, deception and conflict reign supreme.
Character-Driven Story. Our character-driven story is fueled by yourself, your companion and the unique bond you share. It focuses on a single but incredibly deep relationship that varies depending on your race and gender. As a Sime, you play a character of tremendous power and driving need. You depend on your companion to feed from their life energy, and gain incredible power from doing so. But there is violence in your very nature -- can you refrain from the thrill of the kill? As a Gen, your power over your companion is both absolute and terrifyingly fragile. What are the limits of your ability to give of yourself to strengthen your power as a team? The bond between Sime and Gen is a powerful one, but far more dangerous than anyone admits. Failure to maintain this delicate bond may risk losing yourself, your companion and peace amongst your people.
Accessible and Satisfying Epic Combat. Combat will feel EPIC, while remaining easy to pick up and understand. At all times, you will feel like a hero (or villain), wholly unique in a universe of mortals. But dodging back 50 feet and throwing down a massive explosion that rips apart the earth beneath your foes is only part of the fun of fast and epic combat. It must also feel challenging -- in a good way. We also provide you with the ability to play in a way that suits your personal gameplay style: play the way you want to play, not how we tell you.
Choice. Everything in our design is about choice -- from combat to the weapon you wield. Through the Paradigm System, your choices will lead you in directions that are unique to you and your character. It's not a moral system based on Good, Neutral or Evil, but a system that reflects the complexity of choices we face in real life. Our emphasis on Choice also offers unparalleled replayability. In the story-driven Ambrov X, you will step into the role of a Sime or a Gen in the gender of your choice. You will be able to choose from four very distinct classes: The Agent, the Endowed, the Monk and the Sentinel.
You will also be able to choose the gender of your companion and will have the ability to romance that companion. If you choose a Sime, you will be paired with a Gen companion who will give you energy and boost your morale. As a Gen player character, your Sime companion will assist you with powerful abilities beyond those of a normal NPC. Finally, full Character Customization offers a variety of choices to create a unique character to guide through the Sime~Gen Universe.
The Paradigm Conversation System is something we are truly proud of at Loreful. It's built from the ground up with the pillar of "Choice" in mind. At key points in the plot you will be served up a Paradigm choice. These choices are based on key paradigms: Military, Scientific, Philosophy and Diplomacy. What we have done with the system is to answer the question of Story vs. "Kill 10 Rats", but without sacrificing gameplay. When you receive a paradigm quest, we are asking you, "How do YOU want to play this?" Do you want to be a space grunt and simply kill them all OR do you want to delve deeper into the story and ultimately find an alternate solution to brute force? You won't be punished for choosing a certain paradigm. But your story will be altered by it. If you choose to kill the enemy rather than negotiating, you may miss out on key information. Conversely, if you let an enemy go free, that decision could come back to haunt you.
There is no gameplay value to selecting the same paradigm every time, encouraging players to really think about every decision. A paradigm choice is simply based on how you want to see things play out. Ultimately, the choice is yours.
There is nothing cookie-cutter about Ambrov X. Any weapon or armor piece is at your disposal, despite your class. If you choose to wield a sword as an Endowed (Mage Class), that sword will take on the unique property of your skills -- a burst of flame becomes a flaming sword. You will also have an arsenal of skills at your disposal, with eight (8) disciplines and a myriad of skills to choose from. Furthermore, you can fine-tune your gear to your liking. You can wear whatever you want, as all equipment in Ambrov X is mod-able. You can seek out powerful mods to place in three slots on every piece of gear and those mods will make your favorite weapon or armor piece into the legendary item it deserves to be.
Combat is action-based, with martial maneuvers that are epic and fun. Combat is also tactical, as you'll need to manage your skills properly to defeat the toughest bosses in the game. While action-based, combat in Ambrov X is not about button-mashing your way to a win, but instead about strategy and skill management. With the robust skill system at your fingertips you'll be able to create the play-style you enjoy.
Exploration and Lore. We are creating a game with explorers in mind. Getting lost in an environment can be fun and rewarding. Lore items dot the landscape, encouraging exploration and adventure. Discovering these items will help you delve deeper into the Sime~Gen universe and really live in this setting.
Ambrov X is being developed by Loreful, a small to mid-sized independent game developer in Cincinnati, OH. Loreful was founded in 2012 by award-winning Creative Director Aharon Cagle, with the mission to create "evolutionary role-playing video games that engage players in compelling experiences".
The Loreful Team’s unique experience makes it ideally suited to meet the challenges of a new age in gaming where leaner, more diverse independent companies must survive without the assistance of publishers. Collectively we combine years of video game design and development with creative direction and marketing for some of the world’s most beloved brands.
Ben Steel, our Lead Game Designer, brings to the team extensive AAA experience, including such titles as Guild Wars 2 -- on which he served as an Event Designer.
About Jennifer Brandes Hepler
Jennifer Brandes Hepler has been a professional game writer since she began writing for "Shadowrun" at 19 years old, contributing to numerous supplements and co-authoring the well-received “Cyberpirates.” After a brief stint in Hollywood on the CBS television show “The Agency,” Jennifer began writing for Bioware, serving in a senior creative role on both the "Dragon Age" and "Star Wars: The Old Republic" franchises. Known, respectively, for her development of the dwarven culture in “Dragon Age: Origins,” the Smuggler in "Star Wars: The Old Republic," and for blowing up the Chantry and leading the mage rebellion in “Dragon Age II,” Jennifer has most recently served as senior writer on “Dragon Age: Inquisition.” Despite having been the unfortunate target of a highly public internet harassment campaign, she is looking forward to helping to launch a new generation of RPGs.
Ultimately the answer comes down to one word: Freedom. We have been fortunate to have unmeasured support from Sime~Gen, Inc. The rights holders have allowed us unprecedented creative freedom within their story-rich universe. But under a publisher's control, that freedom will certainly dwindle.
Now more than ever independent studios have the power of digital distribution. Coupled with crowd sourcing it's an incredibly powerful thing.
But the answer is not only about us, it's about YOU. Crowd sourcing to fund our creative content means you get blaster wielding ninjas with tentacles. As opposed to publishers claiming that blaster wielding ninjas with tentacles do not appeal to prime game purchasers from 32-35. More than this, YOU have a voice. We WILL listen to you. Because ultimately we want the same thing, right? The best damn Sci-Fi RPG in this galaxy.

As you well know, making video games is a complex, time consuming endeavor. Our commitment to meaningful, fully-voiced dialogue and quest branching adds a ton of time to an already tight timeline. So the risks and challenges are clear to us at Loreful.
Our target release date of Q2 2015 allows us 18 months of pre-production, production, polishing and QA.
With that said, we have numerous solutions in process and technology that allow us to overcome these challenges. In many ways, we are process geeks. Experience has taught us to find time-saving solutions in order to focus on what we do best, make kick-ass gaming experiences. We have team members who have worked on MMOs, team members who are Agile experts, team members who have managed large teams on multi-million dollar projects with extremely tight deadlines. We know we have the right process and the right approach.
At the core of our process is an Agile with Scrum approach to development. We are committed to Agile, as its benefits to game design and production allow us to refine and work out bugs as they rise. In addition to Agile, we've developed a number of our own tools that allow any one on the team to jump in and assist on development.
We are also multi-tasking freaks. Truly. We all wear numerous hats, so approaching our tools in this manner allows anyone on the team, from the concept artists to the writers, to help with the core development of the game. Ultimately, all of this leads to a more solid game.
We love our model. Our business model is built around our production process. Allowing us to break up the game into 5 episodes really helps curb both risks and challenges. By producing 5 episodes at 3-5 hours each, we aren't pressured into making a 60-hour behemoth. Our challenge will be getting these episodes out over the course of a year. Armed with our process and our tools we are confident in this release schedule.
Marketing. We are going up against AAA studios with massive marketing budgets. Traditionally, the big studios spend 14% of the their budget on marketing. Fortunately, our CEO has spent the majority of his career in marketing. For 15 years he has worked as an Art Director and Creative Director for some of the most beloved brands on the planet…Hasbro, Godiva, Chiquita, to name a few. Keeping that marketing strategy and design in-house also allows us to monumentally reduce the marketing budget -- allowing YOUR valuable support dollars to go towards making Ambrov X the best game it can possibly be.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Originally we were only offering Episode 1. However, the community spoke loud and clear about wanting all 5 episodes at $25+. We agreed and made it so. Unfortunately, Kickstarter does not allow you to change a description of an item once people have donated in to it. We created another level that clearly states you will get all 5 episodes at $25+, just in case.
Yes and Yes! Every armor piece in the set is customizable with three mod slots per piece. And you can upgrade it and wear it from start to finish.
We desperately want co-op as a team. It's something we all feel pretty passionate about. With that said, we have set 2-Person Co-op at our $2.5M Stretch Goal. And we are looking at more multiplayer options at additional Stretch Goals, should we be lucky enough to make it that far.
Yes. You will be able to choose the gender of your companion and you will have the choice to romance them.
Yes, we'll also provide the In-Game Achievement and Item for those unique additional copies as well.
