oculus rift support should definitly take the ipad's spot on the list of priorities :)

    2. Agustín Cordes 2-time creator on

Next Monday. We will be unveiling a lot next Monday ;)

    3. Snake on

Agustin, now that the minimum goal has been reached, when will you unveil your ultimate stretch goal?

    4. Agustín Cordes 2-time creator on

@Hideo: OH, yes. That. No, you're not insane (yet!). We will post samples of the soundtrack very soon! :)

    5. Hideo Kuze on

Agustín, this KS campaign must be making me lose my sanity!
I could have swore that I posted a comment asking for an update about the music and audio of ASYLUM... since I was/am undecided between the $75 and $100 tiers. (and short on cash too)... and that you replied that there was going to be one latter on.

    6. Agustín Cordes 2-time creator on

@Mystify: Yes, and I don't want to get overly technical here, but we'll do it properly :)

      Mystify on

Proper rift support involves a lot more than just controlling the camera based on head rotation

    8. Agustín Cordes 2-time creator on

@Manly: Yes, very much possible. We only need to get access to the gyros to control the camera, and that's it :)

@Heiko: You can get in touch with Daniel Pharos himself :)

      (look him up on Facebook!)

    9. Manly Stump on

Agustín: Out of curiosity, how can you support the Oculus without full 3D?

    10. Chris Warren on

Nice stretch goals, Agustin. Oculus Rift support for Asylum would be particularly immersive!

    11. Heiko Irrgang on

Hm... 10000 usd planned for live orchestra recording several songs i guess? Would you mind giving me the contact address, i have own projects in the working where i could use such a cheap orchestra ;-)

    12. Agustín Cordes 2-time creator on

Folks, let me be very clear about this: in NO WAY the tablet ports will impact on the quality or detract from the experience. Asylum is a lightweight game (just try the teaser which can run at full speed and resolutions in modest notebooks). Precisely, we can achieve this performance because we aren't using full 3D. It *looks and feels* like full 3D, but that's just a clever trick ;)

Moving to tablets is doable and with minimal impact on quality. You'll be surprised at how well Asylum can perform and pretty much work the same on tablets. Same goes for OUYA: porting to Android paves the way for this console, which we'd love to support.

So, I'm not sure how many of these we can make happen if we don't reach the stretch goals. It depends on how well the game sells (another reason why I want to ensure ports first). As always, we're committed to bring you a quality game, which is why we've been working on it non-stop for the past four years :)

    13. JustADude on

I like the idea of Oculus Rift support, but from the footage I've seen so far, the gameplay seems to suggest transitioning rendered stills to convey a sense of movement (ala Myst). Will Asylum then be in real-time 3D and not merely a point and click? Will you be able take advantage of the Rift's full 6 DOF?

    14. Gordon Shumway on

I would be very happy with an Android port. The first time I play through the game will definitely be on a Linux PC, but I also enjoy sitting on the couch, headphones on and playing on an Android device.

    15. Juan Torres on

In my opinion live orchestra should go first... music and sound design in horror games/movies is of extreme importance; having real instruments in this game's soundtrack would be a MAJOR highlight and would contribute a lot to the atmosphere, you know, total immersion and insanity. Cellar of Rats did an excellent job in Scratches and I remember standing still for hours just to listen to the music; I can't even imagine what my experience would have been with a live orchestra, maybe I would be already dead by now or locked in an asylum.

Besides, you just can't worship the Great Old Ones with mere virtual instruments!, that's disrespectful and plain lame...

(I think I figured it out by now, the $166,666 stretch goal is Senscape completing Call of Cthulhu: Beyond the Mountains of Madness and Call of Cthulhu: Destiny's End, right? ...RIGHT?!)

    16. Maxim Bardin on

When good looking project offer their games to ipad/android it immediately makes me suspicious.
ipad/android based devices have much inferior hardware than the PC/consoles - so the game must be downgraded to be able to run on them.
Moreover even AAA games that are developed for the PC and consoles only, suffer from problems because they support consoles (controls/menus/gameplay).

So supporting ipad/android might not be a good idea for the quality of the game.

    17. Manly Stump on

The order doesn't bother me at all, but primarily because I think we're going to be hard pushed to even make the initial target. What I want to know is, if we don't make these stretch goals by next week, are they definitely never going to happen?

And just to throw my opinion in, my favourite of the stretch goals is the Oculus Rift ;)

    18. Craig Gamache on

Since I've seen so many comments complaining about the order of your stretch goals I just thought I would chime in and say that the order sounds perfect to me. It's pretty much exactly in the order of how much I care.

    19. Agustín Cordes 2-time creator on

@Daniel: But I can apply the same reasoning to ports then: more ports means more sales, and higher profits. Still, there's no way we can make everybody happy with this. In Twitter, everybody is claiming that Oculus Rift should go first. In the comments section, Android/OUYA were the favorites. Maybe we can do a poll. I honestly never expected the live orchestra to be so popular...

Also, like I said, the final stretch goal would require more money to produce, but we intend to reinvest sales from the game itself. Therefore, ensuring more sales first is crucial if we want to meet that goal.

    20. Agustín Cordes 2-time creator on

      @Hideo: Wait... which music/audio update?

    21. Daniel Goldberg on

I strongly disagree with the order of these goals, even given the reasoning. It makes far more sense to add more value to the base product first, before trying to branch out onto other platforms, because the platform doesn't change your core audience and doesn't necessarily translate into higher profits - if it did, everyone would just make board games. However, language and music very well could result in higher profits if they are made integral to the experience. Honestly, what are people going to remember - an amazing soundtrack and lingual comprehension, or the fact that they could play on X platform or that they played it with goggles? I think Live Orchestra should be the highest priority, followed by FIGS, iPad, Android, Ouya, and Oculus Rift... plus whatever the mystery stretch goal is. Basically, just save ports for dead last.

    22. Hideo Kuze on

How about that music/audio update Agustín?
Is it still going to happen? :)

    23. Fate on

I can understand Agustín's point of view... and if I was in his shoes that is what I would initially want for stretch goals... and it really would be better for the community... but I think a great deal of us still would rather have a different order in stretch goals.

    24. Fate on

@Agustín: Any chance that after your successful KS that stretch goals could still be realized even if not within the KS timeframe? i.e. continued financial campaign on with perhaps a PayPal option? - I've seen some previous KS projects have PayPal on their website after KS is over.

    25. Andreas Monitzer

Thanks for picking up my Oculus Rift suggestion! :)
I agree on the rearranging, though. I'm using my iPad every day, and I still can't see myself playing anything remotely immersive on it (it's fine for Angry Birds, Doodle Jump and board game adaptions, though). Live orchestra and the Rift are far more beneficial than any goal before them.

    26. Agustín Cordes 2-time creator on

There's a reasoning behind the order of these stretch goals, which I hope you guys will understand. They are tight but completely doable. Porting to iPad and Android is expensive but due how the engine Dagon is designed, we can definitely afford them.

Thing is, we want to make sure Asylum reaches as many people as possible. You would be surprised how many have been asking for OUYA and even the Oculus Rift (we weren't even planning them at first!). The live orchestra would be a wonderful addition I reckon (and Daniel Pharos is DYING to do it), but ensuring these ports first means that more players could benefit from the orchestra.

We can make this happen, though, especially with the imminent Paypal support. It's going to be an exciting last week!

      Philippe Sainton on

A live orchestra would directly benefit to the actual game, and benefit to ALL the players, as opposed to a little fraction. Would you consider moving that stretch goal to the top? Pretty please?

    28. Paul Barrett on

Nice Agustín. Live orchestra would be brilliant.

Last time I ate figs, it had this weird effect on me - I started speaking in all these different languages.

@Gastón: hmmm... KS for Gastón... I'll back you! : )

    30. Steven "Blackthorne" Alexander on

Awesome! These are totally reasonable Stretch Goals! Last week - let's run this up!

    31. Korg on

      Done :)

Yeah my budget was done long time ago :P but I think it's worth the effort. Next month is going to be tight xD

    32. The Evolutionary on

@Gaston, for the music I am truly tempted, but I'm already donating time to a school and my budget is pretty much done for now. This project has my nearly unlimited enthusiasm, love and support....if only those could be spun into cold hard currency. (Just call me Evolstilskin with his web weaver)

    33. Agustín Cordes 2-time creator on

Hhmmm... additional content... well, I guess we'll have to aim for that ultimate stretch goal then *whistles*

    34. el_rako on

@Augustín I like the idea to start the game and then to play on the iPad but I thought it will be additional content or more goodies because we love goodies ;) otherwise good point for translations :)

    35. Fate on

@Gastón: Thank you for doing what you can... we know times are hard on many people... and we love you for your support!

    36. Korg on

I will upgrade to 100 is not much but I really want that live orchestra and know what the 166.666 goal is :D

      Zachary Hait on

      I want Oculus Rift.
      I want live orchestra.
      I want Cthulhu.
Rearrange goals so those are the first 3? (:
It's way uncool to tempt with Cthulhu by the way, I hope there's a secret epilogue that simply summons Cthulhu for you to just look at. :P

    38. Robert Spizzirri on

I'd love to see that Live Orchestra goal reached.

    39. Max Narvaes on

Oh god, if the occulus rift port comes out I think I'm gonna die while playing it. Awesome Stretch goals!

    40. Agustín Cordes 2-time creator on

@Mikael: Well, tablets can make for a nice and "intimate" experience, akin to reading a book. I think Asylum would be a great fit for them, especially with the planned support for shared saves ;)

@Loic: These aren't just ports, the final ones are really enticing! What were you expecting? :)

    41. Andreas Baumann on

Great stretch goals. Would love to play the game with oculus rift!

    42. Mikael Arvola on

I have to say, the potential for Oculus Rift support is very exciting, seems like a great fit for this type of a game. iOS/Android is kind of going the opposite direction, and not as compelling I think: small screen and thin audio.

Either way, very cool. Thank you for your efforts.

    43. el_rako on

      Oh only ports :(
