The Facts in the Case of the DRM and Other Macabre Updates

Hello, dear backers!

We have so many things to tell you (and show you!) today, that I wouldn’t know where to begin. So, for the sake of entropy, I’m going to be completely random…

New Video

This additional footage was wisely cut from the original video, as it would have left us with nearly 10 minutes of presentation. Way too much by Kickstarter standards (and I doubt that many watched the whole first video, anyway). This is less than a couple of minutes though, and mostly focuses on our Dagon game engine. We will be talking more about it in a future update, but for now this is a nice introduction that was missing from the project page.

Since we must look out for the interests of future generations, we want to stress again that we oppose to every form of DRM. The video explains it better:

Oh… and please excuse the inconsistent pronunciation of “Dagon” (it’s more like “dEIgon”). Also, did you catch the brief glimpse at the moody introduction to Asylum? Fans of Scratches will recognize a similar style. It’s over two minutes long and loaded with chilling details. We think you’re going to love it!

Subtitles

You might have noticed that subtitles were already present in that video. And guess what, now the first video is fully subtitled as well! So here it is again, in all its HD glory and with proper transcriptions to make up for our poor English accents:

Wallpapers

Finally, you seem to have really liked yesterday’s screenshots, so we prepared a small gift for you: gorgeous, creepy wallpapers in super high resolution to dress up your boring monitors. Look at them! You can almost touch the crumbling walls and stains of blood. So pretty… There are even many resolutions to choose from:

1024x768 - 1280x800 - 1280x1024 - 1440x900 - 1600x1200 - 1920x1200 - 2560x1440

1024x768 - 1280x800 - 1280x1024 - 1440x900 - 1600x1200 - 1920x1200 - 2560x1440

And all of this because you're such amazing people. As always, stay tuned for more!

- Agustín

I was expecting an item inventory or something like that but now that I know how the journal works I'm really waiting to see it fully operational!
The truth is in some point you just dont expect anything new in a game nothing innovative, not saying that all the new games are the same but sadly they are... so this is like some fresh water in the desert? :P

"So, you will in fact be able to ask any character that you meet about any notes that you made (including inventory items)."
That's cool, like in Discworld Noir! I loved that game. What I also loved in Discworld Noir was that I mostly was looking directly in the face of the characters I was talking to, so not like usual in third person Point&Click Adventures. And of course this will also be the case in Asylum.
Actually I loved everything on Discworld Noir, the music, the crude and bitter humor, the atmosphere,...

Glad you liked the wallpapers! We'll prepare more ;)

That notepad carried by the protagonist is part journal, inventory, and dialogue system. So, you will in fact be able to ask any character that you meet about any notes that you made (including inventory items).

      It's a very streamlined system :)

Gorgeous images, Agustin. I have the courtyard as my wallpaper now. :)

Yes, of course I have played the teaser. My opinion was actually that there was nothing like an inventory.
I have tried it again and looked into the journal after picking the key. There was a new entry called "key ring". After moving in front of the door, I opened the journal and and clicked on this entry instead of clicking on the door. So basically that's it, a journventory.
I would say it fits in the mood of the game, much more than an real inventory.

@Ingo: Yes, the journal is the inventory itself. Have you tried the teaser? Can be hard to explain how it works, but the system is very intuitive when you actually use it :)

    7. Creator Ingo Günther on February 6, 2013

@Agustín: So inventory or not? Actually there has to be one, if the items won't be used automatically.

@Dablue: You should have been watching the bonus video before going to sleep. For a change I slept well and felt great this morning.

    8. Creator Agustín Cordes on February 6, 2013

@Gaston: The system is going to be like in the teaser, although items won't be automatically used for you (the keys were an exception ;)).

Elaine Marley? What was she doing in the credits?!

Very nice update man. The perfect story to wake up from after a night of odd dreams!

I love that drive scene reminds me a lot to mr Arthate driving his car :D oh so many good memories :')
One question that I think it wasn't made yet, will the game feature some kind of inventory system?or is like the teaser, when you have the right item(the keys) it automatically use it when you need it?
*fingers crossed for inventory system* :P

The intro reminds me of Alan Wake, but it looks way better.
