It was the Yuletide, that men call Christmas though they know in their hearts it is older than Bethlehem and Babylon, older than Memphis and mankind.
This line appeared in the opening paragraphs of H.P. Lovecraft's short story The Festival, as the narrator explores the mysterious oceanfront village of Kingsport. Inspired by the weight and poetry of this line, I asked my good friend Gabrielle to create an illustration of a stylized Cthulhu head for the face of a holiday card that captured that poetry, and she more than delivered.
We decided on using the Operina type family from P22 foundry and set the quote in the Fiore font.
With your help, we want to give this design form! We want to letterpress print this card with a single, shining, silver foil-stamped star. The funds we raise through this Kickstarter campaign will pay for the paper stock, custom photopolymer plates, custom foil-stamping die, press rental, printing materials, and shipping materials.
The rewards for this project are pretty straightforward! If you back, you get copies of the cards w/ matching envelopes!
If you want more cards than are being offered in a reward tier, just add to your pledge accordingly. So if you want two cards, make your pledge amount $12; if you want seven cards, make your pledge amount $35; if you want fifteen cards, make your pledge amount $60; if you want A HUNDRED CARDS I guess make your pledge amount $400?

Paper Stock: French Dur-O-Tone Newsprint Aged 80lb Cover Stock
French paper is amazing! Family-owned mill in Niles Michigan, powered by 100% hydroelectric energy. The Newsprint Aged stock reflects the timeless nature of the Lovecraft quote and will take an impression nicely.
Printing Press: Vandercook Universal 1
Eric prints out of The Arm in Brooklyn. The Arm takes wonderful care of their decades-old printing presses, ensuring that mechanical difficulties won't get in the way of fulfilling this project.
Risks and challenges
Although I've printed dozens of letterpress projects, Silver Bullet Press is a one-person operation. So if something happens to me (illness, injury, etc.) that keeps me sidelined for a month or so, I will have difficulty delivering the cards in time for the backers to turn them around to their recipients. I've attempted to mitigate this risk by giving myself a full month of time to print.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
