Welcome everyone to the Kickstarter for our fourth album: Adeliane. The purpose of this campaign is to finance the pressing of the CD as well as a special vinyl limited edition of Adeliane. It will also help fund the 2017-2018 Adeliane Tour. We have three dates in store for 2017 (in Birmingham during the UK Games Expo (June 3rd 2017) and Essen during the ESSEN Spiel (October 27th 2017), and a last one in France) and at least three others for 2018, including one in the United States.
The album has already been recorded and will enter its mixing and mastering phase in June. The delivery of the MP3s and FLACs of the album is planned to take place in July.
Adeliane is a music album inspired by the universes of Philip Glass, Agnes Obel, and David Darling. It is one more window to the world of Shadows of Esteren, a medieval world filled with dark romanticism, where ghastly horror and awe-inspiring beauty go hand in hand.
Adeliane is one of the main characters of the Shadows of Esteren saga. A young woman crushed under the weight of a tragic past; a strong, brave young woman on a quest to shed light on the mysteries that haunt her nightmares.
This album tells her story. It is composed by François Rousselot, the composer of the OST of MR HUBLOT, a short film that won the Oscar for best short animation in 2014. Here are samples of two of Adeliane’s tracks. Note that these are rough versions, far from the final result, which will be recorded with a classic orchestra. They should still give you a feel of the album's mood:
The album will be recorded by the Budapest Symphonic Orchestra, under the direction of François Rousselot. It contains 12 tracks, including 4 with sung parts. Clarisse Mây will lend her voice to Adeliane. Here is one of her personal compositions, not included in the album but which should give you an idea of the style of the album Adeliane:
Since 2011, we have released three albums. You can listen to them at Bandcamp.
Each album was composed and played by different artists: minimalist, fleeting mood music for the first (Of Men and Obscurities, by Delphine Bois), orchestral original soundtrack for the second (Dearg, by Jure Peternel), and electric, contemplative movie music for the third (Rise, by the Aufaure twins).
Our project is transmedia and this campaign also features Melwan, a sourcebook for Shadows of Esteren and Yldiane, a 16-page graphic novel.
Melwan is a supplement we have been working on for quite some time. This book of about 60 pages is focused on the Vale of Melwan, the very same one from which Adeliane and her sister Yldiane hail. It will be published as a sort of small artbook; a notebook annotated by Neala, a shepherdess who knows the Vale like the back of her hand.
Adeliane has a sister and she is the heroine of a 16-page graphic novel also available through this campaign. Written by Nel, author of the Shadows of Esteren and drawn by french artist Manu Roudier :
Imagined and designed by Studio Agate from Paris, France, Shadows of Esteren features a medieval world with horrific and gothic overtones in a dark, low fantasy setting. Drawing inspiration from Celtic myths, this universe has a subtle fantastic side hidden under a bleak, realistic surface. As a role-playing game, Shadows of Esteren has received more than a dozen awards for its art, production value and cartography, earned a silver ENnie Award for Product of the Year, and has thousands of devoted players worldwide.
For more, you can also watch this short trailer:
You can discover Esteren through the introductory PDF of Book 0 Prologue, freely downloadable here at DriveThruRPG or here at our Dropbox. It contains an introduction to the universe, a summary of the system, 6 pre-generated characters, and three scenarios. Making this PDF available to you was made possible thanks to the involvement of the backers of Shadows of Esteren.

Here is a description of the main reward tiers:
- Album Adeliane. The focus of this Kickstarter campaign: an album of 12 tracks, available in digital format (MP3 and FLAC), as a CD, and as a vinyl record.
- Tickets to the concerts. Through this campaign, you can order tickets to the concerts in Birmingham during the UK Games Expo (June 3rd 2017) and Essen during the ESSEN Spiel (October 27th 2017). The tickets to the concert in France will be available later.
- Melwan. The Shadows of Esteren series includes several supplements (The Monastery of Tuath, The Black Moon Handbook, Occultism…) that explore specific aspects of its universe. Melwan’s focus is the eponymous vale from which Adeliane and her sister Yldiane hail. This hardcover artbook is written from the perspective of an in-universe character, just like the Black Moon Handbook was written by Steren Slaine. Here, the author is Neala, a shepherdess and Caernide breeder from Melwan. She talks about Yldiane (through a CYOA-like story), describes Melwan and the surrounding vale (which takes the shape of a game aid dedicated to the region’s noteworthy locations, personalities, and flora), and covers the local fauna, as well as more unusual creatures (under the form of a bestiary).
- Yldiane. Yldiane is Adeliane’s little sister. Through this campaign, you can pledge for a limited edition of Yldiane, a 16-page graphic novel, printed on quality paper on 16 separate art prints delivered in a binder.
The visual atmosphere of Shadows of Esteren is a very important aspect of the project. The art of Esteren is as much a part of its romantic universe as the music or the role-playing books. Here are a few samples:
