Is "Steampunk" merely a fancy way of redressing existing fantasies? Is it a modern reaction to mankind’s inability to truly cope with the rapid advances it has inflicted upon itself? Is it a lifestyle choice for a culture wanting to live in a simpler time?
Opening Oct. 14, 2011 at Muzeo in Anaheim, CA, Steampunk: History Beyond Imagination will explore the origins, personalities, and lasting effects of an imaginative aesthetic born in “The Age of Steam”, through a collection of artifacts, replicas and informational displays.
After its full run in Anaheim, Steampunk: History Beyond Imagination will likely travel to other locations in the United States.
The exhibit will introduce visitors to an era in which science and industry were combined to launch mankind into the 20th Century (and beyond) – to become a world where ordinary human beings could do the impossible. Historical pioneers like Charles Babbage and prominent personalities like Nikola Tesla will also be revealed for their contributions to the development of incredible technological advances.
Further displays will delve into the fantastical worlds and concepts dreamed of in fiction (by the likes of H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, and Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley) and compare them to the wondrous realities created by inventors and scientists like Ada Lovelace, The Wright Brothers, and Thomas Edison.
Some of these galleries will not only enlighten visitors on the connections between science and imagination through artifacts, but will also allow visitors to explore questions about history in creative interactive exhibits.
Some of our Artifacts include:
- Full scale replica of The Time Machine (created by Rob Niosi) from the 1960 George Pal movie, The Time Machine.
- Replica of The Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (the 1954 film).
- Original movie props and concept art.
- Vintage books, comics and fashion
- Video displays featuring interviews with prominent Steampunk scholars, authors, artists, and scientists!
- Steampunk-themed art, sculpture, jewelry, fashion, photography and inventions!
We will also feature a series of special ancillary, bilingual educational programs that will not only entertain students and guests with hands-on craft workshops, but also educational programs and lectures themed to fit the exhibit. All are specially geared to fit within the parameters established by California educational standards.
Not only will Steampunk: History Beyond Imagination be a gallery of history-related items, it will also be an artistic and educational romp through a unique manner of looking at the world around us!
HOW YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS WILL HELP
Aeronaut Productions (a small team of artists, designers, and educators) have been given the unique task of beating the odds, and attempting to bring this exhibit to life in a relatively short period of time! Please join us in this endeavor to bring something extraordinary to life!
We are in need of funds to help us with the following:
- Build displays and artifact cases.
- Complete artifact replicas for display.
- Transport our "crown jewel" - a period-authentic replica of The Time Machine to the Muzeo.
- Print graphics and legends for exhibit.
