About this project
What is Aerobicide: The Extreme Ninja Workout?
Hi, my name is Terry Parr from Shonuff Studio. Aerobicide is my personal passion project. I have been wanting to do a creator owned comic, starring an Asian-American hero for a while. I also love the 1980's and really wanted to channel that energy into a comic book. I decided to take Heavy Metal, Punk rock, BMX, Breakdancing, Aerobics, Yuppies, VHS, and Ninjas... put them into a blender and Aerobicide: The Extreme Ninja Workout was the result! Aerobicspoitation as it's finest.
I am fortunate to have partnered with Ape Entertainment to publish this book. I just need to cover the cost of printing. Which is $1,500 for a print run of 2,500 copies (24 pages full color). This book will be distributed by Diamond Distributors... which means this book could be sold world wide! Which is why I need your help :)
It is the 1980s. Venice Beach has been taken over by Weight lifting gangs, Yuppies and evil ninjas. An 18 year old dance instructor, Sheri Ken, has inherited the skill of a ninja by the way of ancient chants on a cassette containing Heavy Metal music. She must use her ninja skill to annihilate any foe who threatens her dance studio and to make it in time for her next Hollywood audition.
Watching Red Letter Media’s “Best of the worst” on Youtube... there was a Ninja Themed episode that was supremely entertaining. They watched Ninja 3 The Domination. The girl was a aerobic instructor who became a ninja... sort of. It was really bad. After watching it I thought it would be rad to actually have a female character who was a ninja... but she regularly wore aerobic gear while battling evil shinobi in an 80’s universe. My dad always had a huge Aerobics VHS collection ... so it seemed kinda fitting. I was really inspired by that, so I started sketching up some ideas. Sadly, my dad passed away before I was able to show him the idea.
Risks and challenges
All 24 pages of line art are completed. Coloring and lettering is still being done. Expected release is spring 2017. Will announce the actual release date when this funded. This is being planned as a 3 issue series. I have lots of ideas that could continue if successful.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
