Our Anniversary Update: Fulbright, brains full of marbles, and fulfilling a 2nd production run
A year ago you helped make Go Extinct! a reality - thank you so so much! We hope that you've been loving the game and other rewards ever since.
From our end, we are very excited to say that STEAM Galaxy Studios and Go Extinct! continue to grow. Here are a few highlights and ongoing projects:
Game designer Ariel Marcy combines scientific research and science communication with a Fulbright Scholarship
And yup, still rocking those yellow pants. I've been in Australia for the past 8 months researching Fur Scrambles aka the Monotremes! You can read more about my research project here.
And she is working on a second game!
EVO DEVO is the name of the game and also the nickname for my field of research: Evolutionary Development. Players compete to build embryos and discover how tiny tweaks during development cause big evolutionary changes. Evo-Devo is a hot field in biology that is helping us understand - for example - how we can share 99% of our genes with chimpanzees yet look and behave in significantly different ways.
EVO DEVO will also be offered free online for educators everywhere to use and will fulfill Next Generation Science Standards about embryonic development and evolution. Our longer term goal is to create suites of games that can stand alone but emphasize connections between standards so teachers can teach a unit like Evolution in a fun and cohesive way.
Go Extinct! is now offered in Marbles The Brain Stores nationwide and also their online store!
Marbles the Brain Store curates games and toys that are fun & unique brain builders. We're delighted to be part of their summer roll-out!
We'll be in science museum stores soon too!
Stay tuned for our launch in The San Jose Tech Museum and the American Museum of Natural History!
We're selling so many games, we have to do a second production run already!
Your contribution on Kickstarter helped us finalize the art and pay for the first production run of 1,000 games. About half of those games went to Backers and the rest put us in a great place to explore new distribution partnerships and order another, larger production run.
Since last year, more people are learning about evolution in a fun way and we intend to keep that number growing!
Thank you so much,
Ariel & Team STEAM Galaxy
