International Backers: I misconfigured the shipping option in the reward tiers to erroneously state "U.S. Only". I can't change this setting after a tier has been backed by someone. Please just change the shipping price from $7 to $10 and I'll take care of it from there.
Update: The Ravenous Flock is free from Feb 8-12th on Kindle! http://amzn.to/13HlBfO
Update: Upon successful funding, all backers will receive a BONUS limited edition desktop wallpaper of the cover art that commemorates your contribution to this project!
Hello and welcome fellow fantasy readers, writers, gamers, and fans!
This Kickstarter is the last step to turn my debut novel (and my dream), The Soul Smith, into a reality! I have been writing and refining this novel for a few years and it is my ultimate goal to share my story with the world.
The core of the funds raised throughout this campaign will be used to pay for an editor: Derek Bowen, whom I have worked with before. This will also pay for the ISBN, Print-On-Demand, Kickstarter fees, and cover formatting costs.
The book is already written! The cover is already designed! This is the last step! I've setup my own publishing company (Ingot Publishing) so that I can work with IngramSpark as my Print-On-Demand service provider. And if we reach our second stretch goal, then I can upgrade all softcovers to hardcovers!
Author: Adrian V. Diglio has been an enthusiast for all aspects of the fantasy genre since he was a child. He has been a story teller of sorts since 2001, crafting dynamic story lines as a Dungeon Master in D&D and is no stranger to world building. Adrian’s first novel, THE SOUL SMITH, ignites the epic saga of The Blacksmiths series (a planned octalogy). His short story, The Ravenous Flock, precedes the events of his novel and exemplifies his vibrant imagination and unparalleled originality! Favorite fantasy authors include Brandon Sanderson, E. E. Knight, R. A. Salvatore, Glen Cook, George R. R. Martin, Terry Brooks, and Gene Wolfe.
Editor: Derek Bowen was the initial managing editor of Myths Inscribed online fantasy magazine where he polishes a number of short stories before publishing. One such story is The Ravenous Flock, which is how he and Adrian encountered one another. Apparently he did something right, since Adrian came back for more. Additionally, he was the editor of The Mythic Guide to Characters: Writing Characters Who Enchant and Inspire. He has degrees in Philosophy, English, and Linguistics, which makes him exceptionally suited to not holding down a regular job. Favorite fantasy authors include Roger Zelazny, Steven Brust, Glen Cook, Karl Edward Wagner, Gene Wolfe, Samuel R. Delany, H. P. Lovecraft and J. R. R. Tolkien.
Intro to the World: This fresh fantasy adventure is set in the world of Thornwall, a place that's in perpetual war while under rule by the blacksmith demi-gods. Filled with new magic, monsters, and races of creatures, it follows the struggles of a handful of elkin (barbarian hunter-warriors with antlers on their heads), and takes you on an unforgettable journey into a land that pushes the imagination.
Plot: Clan Wyndlyn, a tribe of warriors known as elkin, have united their forces with a neighboring clan. Though Erador Wyndlyn, a promising swordsman that takes pride in his heritage, grows suspicious of the other clan’s intentions. Deeply rooted in ancient traditions, all elders of Clan Wyndlyn depart on their mysterious annual journey into the unforgiving winter. Not yet of age to experience this tradition, Erador is involuntarily forced to stay behind to protect the youths during the elders’ week-long trek. Not long into their departure, this routine journey for Clan Wyndlyn turns into a nightmare as an enormous supernatural blast screams across the snow-covered tundra. With the survival of the elders called into question, things go from bad to worse as Erador struggles to protect the adolescents against an onslaught of savage creatures forged by the Soul Smith. With his leadership faltering, Erador must figure out how to unlock the magic contained in his father’s runic armor if they are to survive long enough to learn of their elder’s fate and see if his suspicions are true.
"Hi Adrian, Your Ravenous Flock short story is terrific, and I'm sure that your novel will be equally excellent. If you have Derek working with you as editor, it will be superb. Derek is one of the best editors that I've ever worked with. Best Wishes, Tony"

My short story, The Ravenous Flock, which preludes the events of my novel, is free on Kindle here for a limited time:
- The Ravenous Flock is FREE on Kindle from Feb 8-12th, 2015
$4,500 - Unlock additional artwork of characters and creatures found throughout the book, by Natalie J. Salvo (cover artist) and Stephan Yan.
$5,500 - HARDCOVER! Everyone that is expecting a printed copy of the book will now receive a hardcover instead! Any differences in shipping costs for this will be covered by me!
$6,500 - NEW MAP! I will redraw the map of Thornwall and have it professionally printed as a poster. Everyone in the Elkin Wing-Guard tier and above will receive a printed copy in the mail!
$7,500 - For all the table top RPG gamers out there (and for anyone else interested), if we achieve $6,500 then ALL BACKERS will have the choice to receive a D&D 5th Edition compatible supplement to the Player's Handbook in PDF format. This supplement will include everything you need to add characters & creatures from The Soul Smith into your D&D campaign (races, classes, weapons, armor, feats, & magic). While I develop this D&D supplement, I expect Wizards of the Coast (makers of D&D) to release their Game System License (GSL) information for their 5E rules. Do not expect to receive this until well after WotC publishes their GSL information. Shipping date is TBD until further notice.
Risks and challenges
Risks associated with this project have all been mitigated. The book is already written. The cover has already been created. A Memorandum of Agreement between myself and Derek Bowen has been signed to ensure that his editing will be completed by March 15th, 2015. The risk of poor printing quality has been addressed through the use of IngramSpark's cover formatting service. The risk of poor editing quality is not a concern since I've worked with this editor before.
The biggest risk to this project is not getting funded. This would prevent The Soul Smith from being edited and subsequently from being published. So please tell your friends about this Kickstarter!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
