Check out our preview of our 2-hour Prologue episode:
We would like to tell you a story.
What kind of story?
It's called A Dream of Aztera.
It's a homebrew 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons podcast hosted by Dungeon Dave. We're raising funds to complete post-production on our first 3 episodes PLUS two bonus episodes (a spooky one-shot episode and a shorter lore episode). These episodes (beginning with the 2 hour prologue) will be released in January, February, and March 2019.
I already listen to plenty of podcasts. What makes this special?
This is Dungeons & Dragons presented as immersive narrative fiction. Dungeon Dave and the Dungeon Delvers - Adam, Ari, Riley, and Shanay - meet about once a month and record a four to six hour session, which is then laboriously edited for length, cutting out all the boring bits where we yell at each other about rules. In the editing process, Riley and Dave create an enchanting soundscape using sound effects and music to make the story come to life. We love playing this game and we hope you enjoy the end result: a unique kind of fiction podcast where the story belongs equally to the DM and the players.
Okay. What's it about?
Our story takes place on the continent of Aztera in the world of Midrora, which is located on the plane of Evergone. Dungeon Dave has been running campaigns in the plane of Evergone (a plane of his own creation) for 10 years. A great calamity has taken place to the west of Aztera in a land far across the Maelin Sea. Refugees are now pouring into the state of Everil, fleeing whatever (or whomever) has destroyed their homes, telling tales of woe and madness. What are they running from and can it be far behind? And what does this have to do with a Tabaxi traveler, a one-eyed orphan boy with a peg leg, a mysterious dark-haired woman, and one of the last remaining Dragonborn? Join us as we delve into a world where our dreams can become reality, but so can our nightmares. However, to finish this story, we'll need some additional gold.
Why do you need coin?
Remember when we mentioned the laborious editing? This podcast takes a lot of work. There's writing, recording (Riley, the talent that he is, mixes and plays at the same time as when we record), and editing. We have a small staff and out most scarce resource is TIME. That's where you come in, noble adventurer, if you choose to accept this quest. Your gift of coin, whatever it may be, gives us hours of time away from other responsibilities to create this podcast that we want very much to share with you. Aztera is a place where dreams become reality, so please help us bring this story to life.
What do I get out of this?
You get to see the tangible product of the dream brought to life: the first 3 fully produced episodes of this podcast which will be in total about 6 hours of content PLUS a one-shot After Midnight episode and a bonus Lore of Midrora episode. You can listen right now to about 20 minutes of the prologue at the top of this page or on our website. You'll get to meet all our players characters and get a sense for the style of editing and storytelling you'd be getting. If we meet our goal, those three episodes will come out in early 2019. We have recorded enough material already over the last year for about 10 of these episodes. The real cost of each episode for post-production is about $2,000. If the goddess Corilia smiles upon us and we meet our goal, we will be able to guarantee an additional episode for every $2,000 we raise beyond our goal.
Risks and challenges
We're rolling the dice (forgive us, please) on ourselves and our ability to create. We've spent the past year honing our skills and we're ready to meet whatever challenges are ahead. We also recognize that in any project with deadlines there is the potential for delays, but that's why we're seeking funding in the first place. Your donation helps assure that this podcast can be released at a reliable rate: one episode per month.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
