Imagine that you're a young dancer. The lights are down, the stage is set. The audience waits in anticipation. You've got your dance number ready to go. You are about to perform the dance of a lifetime.
Now, imagine you're an audience member. You've taken part in selecting the themes and the style of dance. You have the power in your hands to crown the winner of the competition.
Welcome to Imagine: Dance.
Imagine: Dance is an exciting new web series that will be based right here in Perth, Western Australia. Imagine: Dance is a competitive live theatre show that will run for five episodes throughout the year.
The catch of the competition is that it's left in your hands to decide. You have the power to vote on the theme of the week and the style in which you would like the theme to be performed.
We will select five finalists based on your criteria. The finalists are then given five minutes to represent the theme of the week best. You'll even have the power to vote on the winner using either the Imagine: Dance app or live vote on Vimeo. The result of your vote will be instantaneous. You have the power to change someone's life forever!
We've set up this campaign like a competition. We're going to launch our very first episode. We've got 12 distinct logos, each one representing our first theme, and we want YOU to vote on the first episode of Imagine: Dance.
So how do you vote? For every dollar that you spend on this campaign, you'll receive the same amount of points to vote on the 12 themes. With your points, you vote on what you want the first episode of Imagine: Dance to be. This is done with the use of the Imagine App, an app designed exclusively to help make voting more accessible.
Once the votes for the theme are in, you'll get the opportunity to decide on what style of dance you want the theme to be performed in:
We've got a tonne of awesome custom rewards and even competitions within the competition!
Check out the awesome rewards that you'll below:
The phone cases are available in 6 different colours:
The custom shirts come in a variety of colours and sizes for you to choose:
******************************************************** Shipping is FREE on all pledges.
So what about the app? We are developing the app as we speak. We will have it fully functional before the first episode is set to air. Below is a video showcasing the app in its current state:
Come have a look at 2 concept videos that we shot for $2000:
Each finalist will receive a custom-made trophy for their performance.
I have calculated some rough numbers and estimated how many backers that I might get for each pledge level. For example, 3000 backers donating $10 each will help me achieve $30,000. This has been done for every pledge, so I have most of the rewards already. This will result in minimal wait time for all pledges under $150 (unless I hit my stretch goals). I have even taken the liberty of adding a 50% success margin beyond my initial goal, so if this campaign is successful beyond the $30,000 goal, then I will be able to meet the demand.
This only applies to the thank you cards, magnets, bookmarks, and lanyards. The posters, shirts, phone cases, and the surprise gift will take time to be tailor-made to your specifications.
But don't take my word for it, watch this video instead to help you decide for yourself:
Haven't got any money to pledge? No problem! There will be plenty of promotions throughout the life of the campaign. Just follow us on social media and share our promotional material to earn 1 free Imagine Point.
There will be other competitions where you can win some of the rewards without even pledging any money!
Check out the short film that inspired the idea behind Imagine: Dance below:
And for good measure, we will be showing a short film I made in 2017 called Hope. Here's a little preview of the film:
Synopsis: Amelia is a young dancer on the verge of her greatest performance. Trent, Amelia’s long-lost friend suddenly comes back into her life, aiming to restart their friendship. The friendship becomes romantic, and Amelia begins to lose focus on her dream. Their relationship causes friction with her Grandfather, who wants her to focus on her dancing. Can Amelia focus on her relationship to dance, to Trent and to her grandfather?
Justin graduated with a Bachelor of Film and Television in 2013. Since then he has been producing and distributing his own short films for four years now. Justin has also filmed local theatre shows such Phantom of the Opera, Sheerluck Holmes and a Characteristic Quest. In 2016, he also worked for the local community TV station WestTV Perth, where he volunteered as the Marketing Coordinator. One of Justin’s main duties was to help WestTV to promote their app. One of his greatest accomplishments was helping to secure a deal with the local community newspaper to integrate WestTV's content onto their main website.
Jarrad has graduated TAFE with four certificates in Computing and is now attending Murdoch University studying Computer Science. Jarrad has been developing apps on the side for a few years now, but the Imagine App will be Jarrad’s first major project outside of mobile gaming. He has also been acting in the local theatre scene for over 8 years, being involved in performances of all kinds, such as Spamalot, Grease, Fiddler on the Roof and Guys and Dolls. Some noteable achievements that Jarrad has made is that he has used his knowledge to teach a class of students in game design and has volunteered as IT support for a local school.
For every stretch goal that we reach, the dollar discount for the tickets will increase also. Check out the chart below to see how much you will receive for each stretch goal that we reach:
As we are trying to make this a long-term competition, all dollar discounts will last for the lifetime of Imagine: Dance. Even if you don't use them or share them in one go, you can keep them for as long as you like.
Note: The way that we plan to implement the Imagine Points and the ticket price discounts will be delivered to you in an email.
Well, that defeats the purpose of calling it a Surprise Gift, doesn't it?
********************************************************** Only available to those who pledge $10 or more.
Throughout the campaign, you will have a 1 in 10 chance in winning the next tier up free of charge. For example, if you pledge $10, you go in the draw to win the $25 pledge free of charge. This applies to all levels of pledges (with the exception of an upgrade past the $1500 pledge).
Do you have questions? Over at the Imagine: Dance website, there is an open forum where you can ask questions or find if the question you have is already answered. Head on over to www.imaginedanceco.com for more details. Or you can send a direct email to my inbox: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Keep up to date by following us across social media to keep an eye out for promotional materials throughout the campaign.
Just wanted to give a heartfelt thank you to those who took the time to have a look over the campaign, whether you just skimmed for what you needed, or you took the time to have a good read through. Either way, thank you. This has been four years in the making, from conceptualizing the idea to finally beginning this campaign. I hope to be able to keep the conversation going because I want to tell you as much as I can about Imagine: Dance and the future of the competition.
I also want to learn a little bit about you in the process, whether you're a dancer or a filmmaker yourself, I would like to know if you are working on any current projects, I would like to see what you're making and offer my advice if you're planning on running your own crowdfunding project. Although this is my first crowdfunding project, if I can help in any way, I will.
That's enough for now, but it's not the end of the conversation. I hope to keep the conversation going wherever in the world you may be. I believe that together, we can imagine anything.
Risks and challenges
Though they are small risks and challenges, they are important to disclose this to you. I already know some of the solutions to the problem (which are listed below), but some of the challenges can only be solved after the success of the Kickstarter campaign or by running through all of the Production cycles and troubleshooting them as I go.
- Depending on what shows are currently playing at the venue, we may have to change the date to a later date.
- We could face some challenges in obtaining our dancers because we may have to sift through many candidates to whittle it down to 8 finalists for the night.
- With Kickstarter, it's all or nothing so we would love to have all our hard work pay off!
- Most of the costs for running the show are already known, however to be safe we will be holding a small reserve. Should we burn the reserve, I have some of my own personal reserve. This means that I will never ask for more money than what I'm asking for in the campaign.
- If I go through both reserves, I can defer some of my payments to the cast and crew and pay what I owe from the profits from the show afterwards. Not an ideal situation, but a contingency I have just in case.
- If the Kickstarter campaign is successful beyond my estimates, it could take time to order more of the lower tier rewards. The way that I will work is fulfill the backers who ordered first before dealing with the new backers as they come.
- The custom shirt, the custom phone and the exclusive art poster will take time to organize to the tailored specifications. I will guarantee that these rewards will be delivered - I even have back up suppliers just in case my original suppliers are unable to deliver on the goods.
- I have budgeted a small reserve for the shipping costs so you don't have to pay a cent for it.
- Depending on where you live, it will take time for them to arrive.
- I will organize a way to reship items should they be lost in transit or are damaged upon arrival.
- There could be live broadcasting issues. This is out of my control should it fail, but I have faith in the people I'm working with to deliver a seamless live stream.
The Imagine: Dance app:
- The app as of right now is complete in development stage and will be ready for market on the night of the show.
- Should our App fail on the night of voting, we will have traditional ballots for people to vote on the winner.
