About this project
A lot of people have been touched by adoption either directly or indirectly. Even more people haven't. Growing up adopted has led me through a journey full of twists, turns, and amazing discoveries. While not everyone will be able to directly relate to my experiences or be interested in my story, I believe there are a large number of people who will. The more people I have shared my story with, and the more bizarre my story has become, the more I have heard, "You really need to write a book." I have heeded this advice and now I need your help to get that book published so I can share it with the masses.
I never considered myself to be a writer, but once I started working on the book I found that the story flowed very easily from my fingers onto my screen. Writing has been a very therapeutic process and I have worked very hard to be very open and dig deep when telling about my experiences. In addition to my personal perspectives and experiences as an adoptee, I also incorporate some broader information as it relates to adoption in this country. I have seen a lot of requests for stories told from an adoptee's perspective since I began on my quest to write a book and I am happy to share mine.
I decided not to go the traditional route of shopping publishers to "buy" my story because I wanted to maintain control of how it was told and ensure that it remains genuine to my experiences and message. This decision led me to research self-publishing options and to ask for support through Kickstarter to fund the book and get the story out there. The publishing company I am working with offers all-inclusive publishing packages to make this phase more economical while offering a professional finished product. They are also a small locally based company that employs local artists and authors as their support staff - which was a huge selling point for me. The publishing company is on board with my project so now all I need to do is raise the money - and put the finishing touches on the book.
I am over 3/4 of the way done with writing the book in only a matter of a couple months. I plan to put the finishing touches on the book, making sure my story is told in a candid and relatable manner, while my Kickstarter Campaign runs. Here is where you come in... I need you to contribute to my Kicstarter Campaign Goal so I can move from writing straight to printing and have the completed book on the shelves, and possibly in your hands, in just a matter of months.
The money raised from this project, if successfully funded, will go to paying the costs of self-publishing including professional editing, printing, marketing, and distribution.
I hope you will help to make this book possible and be a piece of the finished product by contributing to this Project!!
No charges are made until the project closes on August 21st @ 9:00 pm Central Time. Even then, your pledge will not be collected unless the project has reached it's funding goal. This is an ALL or NOTHING campaign. So please, tell you friends and spread the word!!!!
YES!! You can log into your Kickstarter account ANYTIME before the campaign deadline and make changes to your pledge amount and/or Backer Rewards! Simply click "Manage My Pledge" and made whatever changes you desire.
The manuscript is a full length memoir. I am hoping that once it is type-set and formatted for book size, it will be about 200 - 250 pages.
