About this project
"...Notabag is a super smart, super simple concept done super well." FastCompany
"...How We Designed an Innovative Bag Using Dieter's Rams Principles"
"...now we've got a new Kickstarter crush."
A spontaneous stop at the grocery store. Picking up things while on a bike. Balancing a shopping bag and a favorite drink, while the phone is ringing. We have all been in situations where we had to juggle multiple things at once and needed a 'third hand' or an 'extra pocket'.
In addition to our multi-tasking nature, we are also becoming more conscious about the environment. The need for reusable bags is growing, especially in urban areas.
Notabag is an eco-friendly solution that simplifies our active lifestyle: its versatility allows you to carry it in your hands as well as comfortably on your shoulders; it is durable and can be used over and over again.
What is Notabag:
Notabag is an innovative combination of a shopping bag and a backpack. With a single pull on the straps, it transforms itself from a sleek eco-friendly bag to an easy-to-carry backpack, making it one of your favorite accessories.
Inside of the bag, there is an attached pocket where you can keep your wallet or you keys. When the bag is not in use, it can be folded into that pocket, which becomes a hand-sized pouch and can be easily carried around.
Each Notabag is entirely made out of a single material, without any additional features such as buttons or Velcro. It has a distinctive shape that allows it to transform itself seamlessly.
Protected Design Patent
Notabag's design and functionality is unique enough that it qualified for a patent application. Therefore, it is protected by Registered Community Design (RCD).
The idea came to me during a trip to the local farmers market. It was one of those situations that most of us are familiar with: the grocery bag filled up pretty quickly and I still had to ride my bike home. That's when the real "fun" began.
Things got pretty tricky once I found myself in the middle of busy city traffic. I was trying to maneuver my bike while having a heavy shopping bag on my handlebar bumping against my front wheel. I couldn’t help but wish that I had my backpack with me, or that I could carry my shopping bag over my shoulders.
At that moment, I started visualizing how a simple bag could be transformed into a backpack. That’s when the Notabag idea was born!
Notabag is a product created by Adnan Alicusic and Ilaria Gregianin.
Adnan is the founder and creative director of Notabag. He was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina and grew up in Germany. Later, he received his degree in visual communication from ILIA in Chicago, where he also began his career as a graphic designer. Currently he resides in Frankfurt, Germany, and continues to collaborate on international creative ventures.
Ilaria was born in Venice, Italy. After language studies, she decided to follow her passion in fashion design, taking courses in design, pattern drafting and couture work. With 10 years of experience in couture ateliers in Padua and Milan, she creates custom-tailored, high level dresses for respected clients from all around the world.
Friendship & Collaboration:
Once the idea was born, I knew that I wanted to work with a highly skilled individual on creating the ultimate design for Notabag.
My friend Ilaria was the first one that I could think of. Trained at one of the finest Italian fashion design schools, Ilaria has been working on high-end couture fashion in Milan for the last couple of years. Her precision and attention to detail were very crucial in creating the ideal design for Notabag.
We met almost a decade ago in Miami and, even though we have both lived in multiple places around the world in the mean time, our friendship remained strong. In fact, our international experience (personal and professional) adds a completely unique perspective in the way we approach our projects.
The funds raised through this Kickstarter campaign will be used to produce the first line of Notabag, which includes the rip-stop nylon and cotton edition.
During our prototyping process we have worked closely with the textile manufacturer to select the materials with the right properties for Notabag. Before we decided to launch our Kickstarter campaign we made sure that all the specifications are set and that the production is prepared for a large order.
If we make our goal, we will proceed with ordering the material and scheduling the production. In the meantime, I’ll be collecting necessary information from the Kickstarter survey to ensure that every order is handled properly.

Also, I would like to thank the following talented people who have supported me throughout the launching campaign.

Risks and challenges
Our first and biggest challenge will be to reach enough Kickstarter backers and audience within the timeframe of our campaign. We are doing our best to communicate widely about Notabag, making sure that people hear about this innovative product and it’s potential.
If our campaign is successful enough and we reach our goal, we are expecting the scaled up production to be a challenge as well. As with any mass produced product, making sure that Notabags are being produced according to our expectation will require a very close collaboration with our vendor. Luckily, we took the time in sourcing out the right vendors who have the required expertise and are within a few hours reach from us.
We hope to reach the right audience who will feel enthusiastic about Notabag’s advantages and beauty just the way we do. If we achieve that, we will be on a good way to providing Notabag to everyone of you.
Since I am currently residing in Frankfurt, Germany and Notabag products will be produced in Europe, I will have to ship each order internationally. Therefore, I will have to add the worldwide shipping fees to each reward.
