Dwellings of Eldervale is a big world, and was made possible by many many people willing to help us play test a game, perfect a prototype or tackle a task needed along the way. Dwellings has been 1.5 years in development of just of the current version. Here's a post to call all the workers of these realms out and say thank you from the bottom our heart - you are the true magic of Eldervale!
In no particular order:
PROTOTYPING - Print and Play Productions - Andrew Tullsen and his team know games well, and how to get them made quickly! All of the epic prototypes, and sometimes with a day notice! Bob Schrempp (Prawn Designs, LLC) - Bob is a retired wizard in California that can cut Rise of Tribes dice or meeple rooftops (thousands!), or make 3D Dungeon trayz! Mike DePasquale stepped up and answered a random Facebook post to produce a ton of player trayz, (and FAST!) with his buddy Oscar Valera when we needed for review. John Popson (of Effin Cool Minis) - made the best "where did you get those??" minis and made sure our models were spot on.
LORE/PUZZLES/WEBSITE - Astrid Dalmady was a key force on our team during development, helping shape this game from the ground up, art finding (especially the Darkness!), rule breaking, lore writing! Doug Eboch is a professional screenwriter and your author for the Ratlings adventure as well as tons of Eldervale lore that we'll be sharing on the campaign. Richard Malena-Webber, our puzzle master and game theorist - is a font of great ideas, and cracking good puzzles! Matthew Humphrey - who is always there for us when we need anything related to a website, thank you!
PRODUCTION SUPPORT - Gonzalo Aguirre Bisi of ThunderGryph Games offered a huge amount of help and support along the way, notably lending us a fantastic teammate with our modeler extraordinaire, Erick Tosco. Thanks to Brian Merlonghi for painting our awesome monsters. Thanks to Nicole Gose for voice talent finding, and helping us connect with both Anthony Hansen (monster sounds!) and Cory Yee (intro video). Manny Vega, cheers for the recommendation of Sean Thornton and Robert Karpay for music. Thanks to our team at GameTrayz - Noah Adelman, you are amazing, but you already know that, so we'll thank Bryce Cook as well for being awesome too!
ROAD TEAMS - To all of those special people who supported us on the road - Michael Dunsmore, Sherri Perry, Cricket Yee, Matthew Humphrey, Jaclyn Friedlander and Bree Goldman. Best demo teams ever! Aldo Ghiozzi, for hosting us at GAMA! And to those that took us on the road places, Martyn Poole, you are the best! Thank you Nick Welford and all the fine folks at Zatu Games for hosting us at UKGE. Thank you to Tantrum House for making us feel at home!
PLAYTESTING - To make a big game like this work, you need dedicated, thorough testing, and we certainly got that from the likes of Maximus Laurie, Yvonne Duran, Thomas Jolly, Thomas Brown, Alexander Morrison, Don Gilstrap, Astrid Dalmady, Matthew Humphrey, Gabriel Cohn, Michael Dunsmore, Cricket Yee, Matthew Bivens, Ethan Schaeffer, Mike Rizzo, Sherri Perry, Misty Epperson, Mikey Solano, Mike Vander Veen, Andrew Tullsen, Dan Green, Brian Hellevang, Christian Duval, Randall Cummings, Lon Peterson, Jason Tamura, Bree Goldman, Glenn Cotter, Greg Naugle, Richaed Malena-Webber, Eliot Hochberg, Andy Ashcraft, Scott Rogers, Jaclyn Friedlander, Timothy Riese, Daryl Wiser, Rich Pizann, Brad Brooks, Theresa Rowley, Gregg Saruwatari, Alex Lane, Jon Razo, Cliff Rowley, Sean Geraghty, Scott Caputo, Mike DePasquale, Morton Maansson, Stephen Thompson, James Vaughan and many, many, more. Luke Laurie, League of Gamemakers:
"The best games are yet to be made."... "until Dwellings is done."
THANK YOU FOR READING THIS FAR!
...No cows were harmed in the making of this Kickstarter. Or by anyone asking for a random Cow reward on our comment wall. There are no cows in Eldervale. There are only minotaurs.
Journal of Torina the Dwarf
The thing follows me wherever I go. I do not know what to call it. It is not a dwarf, nor does it seem to be one of the ghosts who haunt the realm of Eldervale. It forms itself out of whatever earth and sticks and rocks lay about. When I try to strike it with my hammer, it simply collapses in a cloud of debris, and my hammer harmlessly strikes the ground. But my relief at dispersing it is short lived, for when I turn around, there it is again. It is always watching… so I will call it the Watcher.
The Watcher may not be a ghost, but it must be communicating with them. The spirits always know where to find us and how to block our actions. The Watcher only watches, but I fear it is the true source of danger.
I have tried to dispel the Watcher with magic – burn it with fireballs, strike it with lightning, flee from it in liquid form – all to no avail. I have resigned myself to its presence. I will continue to explore Eldervale, to reactivate the ruins, to master new elements, to pull gold and gems from the diverse realms. And perhaps once we drive all the ghosts from the land, the Watcher will finally leave us as well.
Risks and challenges
Dwellings of Eldervale will be the 3rd Kickstarter that Breaking Games has run, and it will join dozens and dozens of published titles from our company and additionally, hundreds of games that our parent company Ad Magic has produced. From giant card games to epic strategy with custom meeples, we are experienced in game production, stemming from 30 years in the print business. No job is too small or big, and we are putting all of that into our production of this, our biggest title to date.
This said, all manufaturing comes with risks, which we are used to and will rise to the challenge of meeting them. We are prepared to communicate clearly and transparently if anything happens along the way, and with this relationship we are sure that we can overcome any obstacle. The community of Kickstarter is powerful and together we will make a beautiful game. Thank you for listening, and let's make this happen!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
