Jetpack is from the early 90's, back when 2D was king, and gameplay was everything. I want to play a game like that again, but on a massive scale, with high res graphics and hundreds of levels to share with friends.
I'm remaking Jetpack, with the best parts of the original, and killer enhancements like: a real physics engine, 1000+ tiles, and a full digital soundtrack composed of old school MOD files. Jetpack 2 will be the most advanced, small scale platform game ever made - with your help.
The Story So Far...
I'm Adam Pedersen, founder of Adept Software, and the creator of the original Jetpack. For almost 20 years, I've wanted to make this game. I've only been able to work on it part time because I had to pay the bills, but thanks to Kickstarter, I will be able to work full time and get it done by Christmas!
Everyone's favorite feature has always been the incredibly fun and easy-to-use level editor - the editor is now in beta testing here, so we can begin tweaking levels while the rest of the game is being developed.
Items remaining on the to do list:
- A total revamp of several sections of graphics
- 50+ levels need to be professionally polished
- Game map and storyline
- User interface and achievements
- A lot of gameplay polish
- The game framework is about 50% complete.
- The game engine is about 90% complete, including the Box2D-based realistic physics
JetpackHQ.com is the official home and level repository for Jetpack 2. You can see some early demos of the project on our development blog, like this early test of physics engine integration, or the first controllable demo, where you can take control of the enemies just for fun.
You can also take a look at the current level editor beta, which is already linked to the online level repository.
When you become a Jetpack 2 backer, you become a part of Jetpack, and get some great rewards too. Some notes on the rewards:
* You can add $15 each for additional licenses, to any pledge level.
* I'd like to invite everyone to join the beta testing - we're having a lot of fun playing the early versions, and the 20 existing beta testers have already created over 300 new levels. Also, you won't have to wait until December - your beta access will begin shortly after you pledge!
If this project gets funded, I'll be able to keep working full time on the project. I'll use the money to pay an artist and level enhancers to give the game more polish. If we exceed our goal, we'll be able to put more money into the graphic overhaul and overall polish of the game.

Jetpack 2 will be available on PC, Mac, and Linux. There will also be a more limited web playable version. I'll try to get a version on Steam as well.
Down the road, there is the possibility of supporting portables.
Beta access will let you play every part of the game as it's being worked on.
By contrast, non-beta testers will only have limited access to the level editor, and occasional demo levels in the "Sneak Preview" folder.
* The page will ask you to paste the url of your kickstarter profile, and the amount of your pledge. The system will verify your pledge, then you will be instantly upgraded to Beta Tester!
