So... If you just watched the video, you may be interested in a little more... shall we say... color about this particular project.
I'm making a new record. It's called You and Me Abridged. I was going to call it something else. Something from a Thomas Hobbes quote. And then everyone to whom I told the name of the new record looked at me like I was a weirdo.
I wrote a song that's going to be included on the record called "You and Me Abridged", and one day my mom called me and said, "You know how when you told Steve the name of your record he looked at you like you were a weirdo?" And I was like, "yeah". And she said, "what if you call your record You and Me Abridged". (Mom already knew about the song. This would freaking freak my freak if she didn't and this was just a total coincidence??!)
On principle I try not to take my mother's suggestions. But this one rang true for me. So welcome to the beginnings of You and Me Abridged.

"Addie Pray" from the upcoming record, You and Me Abridged
I'm not going to lie. I feel like a weirdo asking you for money. Like, Hey it's Addie, could you give me some money? Like What?? Like heeeeeeeeeeeeeeey. Can you give me some money?
I know. It's odd right? Are you feeling uncomfortable? I've made two previous records that I've completely self financed, and I have put my own money into this project as well. After much hand wringing I finally decided that other than turning to a life of crime, doing a campaign like this was the only way I could make another record this soon.
If you're reading this, then it's likely you've listened to my songs before, or come to a show, or told a friend about my music. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that support. It's priceless. And you don't have to give a dime here to prove that you support me. YOU'VE ALREADY SHOWN ME. AND I THANK YOU.
I often try to figure out why I do this - singing and songwriting. I don't really have a good grasp of why. But I do think it's something about connecting. When I can tell that someone has connected to a song of mine that feels good. We actually connected. It worked. You got me. I got you.
I'm going to try to have this record ready and in your hot little hands in the spring of 2015. Can't wait.
Risks and challenges
I really hope this project goes smoothly. But sometimes there are bumps in the road - like I decide that a vocal on one of the tracks is just horrific right before we're sending it to mastering and that holds things up, or say the radio promoter I wanted to work with isn't available until a few months down the road... but even if the timeline isn't exact, I'm not going to let anything get in the way of this record. I can't wait to get it to you.
Love - Addie
