Today was a good day...

The initial batch of the "hopefully final" Parallella boards came back to today and they work great! No smoke on power-up, everything that worked on the Gen1 board still works, and....

..we have a complete Parallella computer including USB peripherals and an HDMI screen output!!
Over the coming days we will continue testing and qualifying the Parallella boards coming off the assembly line. The race is now on to get the Parallella into production mode as soon as possible.
The first set of these new Parallella boards will ship out next week!

@all We sent out the first two boards to a development partner yesterday and in general testing is going great, but we won't start shipping to backers until Wednesday this week. We are spending time validating and tuning the platform to make sure everyone will be wowed when they get their boards. So far the board really looks great!!
(ps. Writing this post from the Parallella!)

@Maximilian @Mark The 64-core boards are all sold out and we still only have a very limited number of 64-core chips. They are not in production yet..we would have needed $3M to get there. Anyone who ordered the PAIR or 64-CORE will get two 16-core boards.

Well done! Does anyone know if the 64 core reward will ship as a 64 core or if it is going to be 2 x 16 core? Just need to get some cables for all those micro connectors, now! :)

Have you considered offering a clip on heatsink for the FPGA as an option? This assumes that there is sufficient clearance around the chip. Check out http://www.enzotech.com/index.php… for Xilinx compatible heatsinks, The plastic hold down clip has thin wedges that clip under the edge of the BGA. The clip supports a series of different height heatsinks.
I've dealt with their US sales office (they are in Taiwan) and they have always been very helpful.

Is it possible to update to a 64-core board before you send the 16-core boards?
Adapteva Creator on December 13, 2013
@kloplop321 No need for a fan, but the board still gets pretty "warm". Getting 5 Watts out of a credit card sized board is harder than it looks. We are still working on tuning the board to bring down the power further (through software).
@Tom When we ship next week, we'll explain exactly who will be getting the boards. Many of the $495 backers received the Gen0 board back in July while others opted for an offer to get an upgrade to 64-core board to be shipped later.
@Thomas As soon as we have the initial batch of 16-core chips shipped we will build up some 64-core boards.

Thanks everyone for all the congratulatory words. After a couple of more days with the board things still look very good and we will be starting to ship boards out on Monday!

The board has only one Ethernet interface available? The Zync does support two GigEth interfaces.

Well done guys!

I saw a post recently that the older version needed a fan to blow _on_ it, since it had a heat dispersion problem.
That's no longer the case, I hope?

David - I'd guess the $495 and up - there's over 200 on that.
David Buggs on December 12, 2013
Which pledge levels will be getting this initial batch of boards?
Miro Karnik on December 12, 2013
That is the message which was worth waiting for :-)
