A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Introducing the EFX Lighting arms for Adaptalux Studio. Designed using our existing lighting arms as a base, we would like to offer even more creative options to photographers.

The EFX Lighting Arms are manufactured to the same high standard as our current lighting arms, and will be fully compatible with all current and future Adaptalux Studio control pods and accessories.
Our Lighting Arms attach magnetically to the pod using our patent pending Adaptalux Connector and are of course fully flexible, allowing for fine tuning of your lighting.
The EFX Lighting Arms are manufactured using aero-space grade aluminium, which is then anodised to provide a durable and highly pleasing to the eye finish. This combination also allows for our efficient heat transfer technology to be incorporated, as it is in all of our Lighting Arms.
Ultraviolet can create some amazing effects to draw out the natural fluorescence of the world around us. We have now made this traditionally specialist subject easy to learn so you can get immediate, spectacular results.
The UV lighting arm is designated by the purple anodised connector. It combines a UV LED and a UV Band Pass Filter to block the visible spectrum, allowing only ultraviolet light through to the subject. This is UV Lighting designed to get TRUE UV florescence photography results.
When all ambient light is removed from the environment the UV light can be seen being absorbed by the subject and re-emitted as visible light, allowing us to capture the "glowing" subject.
This effect can be achieved easily with our new UV arms, there are no modifications needed to your camera or equipment. All you need to start UV photography is a tripod, a camera with a manual mode and an Adaptalux Studio with UV lighting arms.
The effect is achieved using a long exposure in a dark environment, any visible light leaking into your shot will be noticeable and can overpower the effects of the fluorescence. We have had great success shooting in darkened rooms, as well as outside at night time.
UV photography is extremely rewarding, revealing details of subjects that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye, such as new colours on insects and highlighting the veins of a leaf or flower. Some insects and birds see using UV florescence spectrum, this effectively replicates this.
The filter fitted in the head of the arm filters out 99% of the visible light that the LED produces, leaving only UV. This is essential for true UV photography as the violet and blue light produced by most UV light products easily overpowers the Fluorescence created by most subjects so the end result is poor.
The Lighting Arm-s (the S is for super bright) is an evolution of our current lighting arms, using the same LED, but with a special feature that a lot of you have been asking for.
The Arm-s has a specially designed TIR lens built into the front of the arm. This greatly improves the amount of light reaching the subject allowing you to use faster shutter speeds, lower ISO and get sharper images of your subjects.
Getting close and creative outdoors with the Arm-s is noticeably easier. the increased brightness of the arms helps to overpower the ambient light and give you more control over your shots.
The images above were captured using 2 normal white lighting arms and 2 super bright lighting arms at some very small peppercorns. We exposed for the super brights and kept the same camera settings and light source distance from the subject when we changed to the standard white arms.
The high brightness of these arms is even more apparent when the lights are closer to the subject, making it easier than ever to get ultimate control over your super close-up macro lighting.
We have added a silver finish to the head of the Arm-s to distinguish them from the standard arms. On the final product, these will be anodised silver matching the connectors to give the high quality finish we expect from our products.
We consider this arm a "side-grade" rather than an upgrade. With the increased brightness from the lens, comes a narrower beam angle for the light. It makes these arms fantastic additions to your kit for when you are getting extra close and need a boost of light and especially great for use outdoors and on camera.
Our Laser arms bring something new to the table. A lighting arm with laser diodes can be a powerful tool for your creative photography and we are very excited to see the creative uses you are able to come up with.
The Laser Arms have focusable lenses that can be accurately adjusted to create beautiful refractions in glass subjects or directed through semi-transparent materials to illuminate subjects in new ways.
The nature of the lasers means that light can be directed extremely precisely onto subjects without much light spread, like a normal LED would produce. This also allows your Adaptalux Studio to be used at much greater distances than before, as there is no need to move the lasers close to the subject!
The red beams of light created by the laser arms are extremely fun to incorporate into your photography and open new possibilities for lighting subjects creatively and effectively.
Of course, the lasers themselves can be used as a subject. Shining them through interesting materials like fluids, glass and smoke (as seen in our trailer) can create fantastic effects and allow for some creative abstract images.
The laser heads on our prototype have been 3d printed, but again, the final production arms will be anodised metal to match the quality of the other arms. The focus ring will be integrated with the screw on cap, so the beams can be easily focused to your preference.
We have also plans in the future to offer lenses to attach to the laser arms that split the beam, creating a range of effects.
We have successfully used Kickstarter to fund our projects in the past, without the funds and support of our backers, our company wouldn't be here today.
For this new project, we will again need your help. We need new electronics, machining of new parts and new packaging to bring these new arms to your doorstep. This is an exciting new chapter in the Adaptalux Studio product range, and we hope you can can see its potential and support us with this new venture!

Who we are
A lot has happened since we opened our doors in 2015 with our first successful kickstarter. Working mostly alone and from his garage, our founder Samuel Granger brought the Adaptalux Studio to life to solve the problem of lighting macro photographs – an issue Sam was dealing with in his own photography endeavors.
Since then we have expanded our team and continued to improve our LED photography lighting range.
We are a small UK based company and we pride ourselves on being able to produce premium quality products for our worldwide customer base. We are thankful for the support of each and every one of our customers and backers as we couldn’t make these awesome products without you!

Risks and challenges
All of the arms shown in this campaign are ready for production. We have designed and tested prototypes, investing in our own time and money to create them - we are extremely happy with the results shown in this campaign. We need your help to take this product into production.
By using our original Lighting Arms as the core of the EFX designs, we are very confident in their performance and quality.
We have had great relationships with our suppliers for over 3 years now and they still make the original Adaptalux Studio parts for us. We know they will do a great job in producing the parts required to make the EFX Lighting Arms and if there are any problems, they will work tirelessly with us to solve them.
The Laser Arm head and beam angle adjuster need master prototyping before going into production as we have used a 3D printed part for this prototype. However, these heads are modifications of the original heads used for Adaptalux Studio Lighting Arms, and we are highly confident they will pass our stringent testing phases, before going into production.
