About

RUNES OF ASHMORE.

Explore an immense world, get roped into a power struggle between multiple kingdoms, engage in combat with vicious monsters! Runes of Ashmore brings you into the world of Einherjar, complete with its many races and geographical features. Our team, Adanac Entertainment, is hard at work for preparing a beta for the game for early 2012 for PC. Upon final release, we'll be launching the game both on PC and XBLA(likely the indie arcade). Inspired by both games of old as well as newer games, Runes of Ashmore puts the fate of a world in your hands.

WHY YOU SHOULD HELP SUPPORT US!

Runes of Ashmore is a large project, and requires massive dedication to create. Our team is working tirelessly, and we still have a lot of work to do. The features in the 'About' section are a mere fraction of what's planned, be sure to check our site and Twitter for the latest updates. Funding generated from Kickstarter will help to:

  • Help promote and market the game to help sell it in order to fund future updates and games.
  • Hire additional talent for things such as sound effects.
  • Pay for licensing for the Xbox 360

ABOUT RUNES OF ASHMORE:

Combat

Combat is turn based, where two or more teams fight each other in an 'all in' death match. In the single player world, it is generally always the player vs their enemies.
  • Grid system which shows the player where they can move, attack, and defend.
  • Different ground tiles give different bonuses. For example, high ground is very advantageous.
  • World objects give bonuses, for example hiding behind a low wall to help defend.
  • Some objects block line of sight, meaning that enemies can't be targeted or even seen when hidden behind these objects. This opens up the means of ambushing.
  • Anything in combat that is possible by the AI is possible by the player, given training/feats and a bit of luck.
In each turn, there are several phases. During these, the player moves and attacks, with their enemies having a chance to choose to defend. Not all blocks can be defended, though, as not everyone is a ninja shadow warrior that has mad reflexes. Outlined below is an example of the process in a combat situation.
  • Setup - this involves placement of units on the field, as well as placement of things such as traps.
  • Movement phase - This is the first turn of the actual combat situation. Players and AI move their units.
  • Attack/defend phase - Any attacks are planned and carried out in this phase. If chosen, units defend.
  • The turn is then ended and everything is carried out. When one side is dead, the match is ended.

Vehicular Combat

Combat between vehicles also plays quite a large role in the game. Players and NPCs would have specific tasks aboard a vehicle that provide different benefits to it during combat. Individual parts of a vehicle may break, requiring someone to repair them in the heat of battle!

  • Take to the skies in various shapes and sizes of airships.
  • Fight pirates, engage in piracy, and participate in battles between various factions.
  • Just like the skies, more affordable solutions exist on the seas.
  • The player and NPCs will build various railways between villages and cities to make money on trade routes. With the player's own train, they can also engage in fights with another train, either for looting resources or taking down a competitor.
The steampunk element shines through in all of these vehicles with many weapons - consisting of things like steam-powered gatling guns and various forms of pneumatic launchers. Powder weapons do exist, as do rifled barreled guns. The majority of these powder weapons are things such as cannons, hand cannons, and flintlock pistols. The heavier powder weapons such as actual rifles are extremely rare and are generally only wielded by elite military units.

Vehicles are not without their expenses. Each type of vehicle will require a sizable crew in order to operate effectively. Each have an in-game monthly upkeep, which requires the player to continue adventuring and earning money to pay their crew's salaries. A few of the positions that need to be filled are: Captain, engineer, pilot, gunner, and deckhand. Make sure you have enough help to man your vehicle, as taking your vehicle into combat means that some are sure to die.

Extremely Large World

The game’s world is to be absolutely massive and immersive. The unique and diversified environments will engage players by forcing them into new situations constantly. From mountains and swamps to caves and deserts, the world will be lush and vibrant.

Change the World

  • Dynamic building - Villages grow dynamically based on a number of factors.
  • Build new structures and set up shops in towns - Players, once they've progressed enough, will be able to build things as well as set up shops to earn extra income.
  • NPCs expand their villages - Even without player support, villages will grow and change to meet the needs of their people.
  • NPCs gather resources from nearby regions.
  • NPCs engage in active battles with people they are at war with.
  • Dynamic trading and resource system(economy!) covers the actual value of items and resources in an area.
  • Players and AI can engage in bartering between one another.
  • All actions can affect the prosperity of a village - whether they expand or not is dependant on how much money is flowing throughout the town. This doesn't mean that a player has to go to a place for it to expand - a village's prosperity will change and fluctuate on its own.

Competitive & Fun Versus Mode

Players will be able to engage in a variety of multiplayer game modes! One of these modes will be our ‘Versus’ mode. In this mode, players will engage in a variety of different combat situations against other players. Other multiplayer modes include things like ‘Co-op’ and ‘Co-op Versus’.

In-depth Storyline

Players will be involved in an incredibly in-depth and long main storyline. Though it is only something optional, it offers many hours of enjoyment for players. It both teaches players the lore of the world while also shaping the world and the player’s character.

Dwarves with Tophats & Monocles

Must this even be explained? Dwarves. Top hats. Monocles.
