Storage - It fans out 4 cards for instant access, and stashes up to 5 more cards or business cards or cash.
Local – Mobius requires highly skilled machinists for superior quality, so its designed and manufactured here in Northern California. Keeping production dollars within my community promotes economic prosperity.
With no design experience, a simple hand drawn sketch, and a crappy aluma wallet in my pocket, I was compelled to come up with something better. My vision for the final product was far from decided, but I knew the core values for my new wallet. It had to be minimalist in form, but not in function, designed and engineered to last forever, and it had to be made here, in America.
I needed someone with experience, and I was fortunate enough to be referred to Rodney Sparks, a freelance mechanical engineer. We setup a meeting at Starbucks and we had an hour to hash out some basic design. After talking about the different ways to approach this new design we hit a bump in the road. We saw no real way to make this wallet ultra strong and durable with any sort of latch or clasp. After almost my entire hour was up, the eureka moment came…
Rodney says, “What if the case pivots open?” I immediately thought of holding playing cards in my hands at a game of cards. I replied, “Could we attach the cardholders and fan out the credit cards like a deck of playing cards?”
AHA! The whole thing seemed to come together instantly after that. I had never seen this design before, but it felt so natural, almost too obvious to not already be made. I scoured the Internet for a wallet designed like this and couldn’t find it.
Rodney did all the engineering in a 3d CAD program and we had a local machine shop make us prototypes. We ended up choosing CNC machined Aluminum for its strength, durability, and overall fit and finish and polycarbonate because it's strong, flexible, and durable.
He has been working with the team at Airpoint for years and He recommended them over anyone in the area. So, the design work had all been done in theory, but until we had the parts made, we just didn’t know if it was going to actually function.
When we tested the prototypes at the shop a few weeks later, it was like a dream come true. They worked almost flawlessly! This is a real testament to the awesome engineering work Rodney did, and the superior quality of Airpoint.
I now began using Mobius daily, and I got a MASSIVE response from everyone that saw it. Every cashier, bank teller, or waitress commented on how awesome the wallet was, but they all had the same response. Where does the cash go?
We had to make it better! We needed to make business cards, and cash apart of the design, as well as make it more comfortable. Rodney was summoned to make the back of the wallet rounded, give room for business cards/cash, and make it easy to open and close with one hand.
Mass producing this version of the wallet is a little more challenging than the original design, but it is worth it because of feel of the wallet in your hands and pocket is greatly improved, as well as being more versatile.
As the wallet has evolved from sketches to prototypes, the core values have remained the same. Mobius is a wallet that is minimalist in form, but not in function, designed and engineered to last forever, and it’s made here, in California.
The minimum order for manufacturing is 100 wallets, so our goal is to reach 100 and go from there. Any other funds will be used for cardholder injection molds (ours will be around $3500), production/shipping costs, and Kickstarter/Amazon fees.
I have a few tasty stretch goal ideas if we get enough backers!
I'm confident you will love Mobius as much as I do, probably even more!

Communication with you!
I have watched countless projects fail to stay in communication with their backers on the status of orders, hiccups of manufacturing, and shipping delays. It is my top priority to be in seamless communication with my backers.
We have a firm grasp on costs, time, and quantities associated with manufacturing, because the engineering and production tweaks have been figured out in the prototype stages. I have mass production quotes and timelines from the same experienced and reputable machine shop that did our prototypes. Airpoint has incredible workmanship, accurate production timelines, and great communication with me.
The first order of business is to get an injection mold tool custom made for the production of the cardholders. Once the first cardholders are made, we can make any final adjustments needed to Mobius's drawings and begin production on the aluminum housing.
The production of the aluminum parts can be done in bunches of 200 per week, which means that every week, 200 wallet housings will be made, and then shipped to the metal finisher for the glass beading/anodizing processes in Sacramento, CA. The turnaround at the metal finisher should be one to two weeks per bunch and will be anodized together according to color. From there, my team and I will be assembling the wallets and begin shipping.
So once the first wallets are produced and rolling out of the metal finishers, starting in mid to late September, we should be shipping 200 wallets until all orders are fulfilled.
I have spent months, and much of my savings on bringing a product to you that is fully functional and ripe for backing. I am very proud of what we have created and I hope the Kickstarter community feels the same.
