About this project
I am raising funds to help me in completing the task of finishing the epic tale of Rama’s journey to save his friend Sita and help the Vanaras (ape-like humanoids) from the evil clutches of King Ravana.
The Ramayana:The Thread of Luminance has taken me over 4 years to complete 3500 pages of artwork and draft the dialogue.
I am using Kickstarter to raise funds to pay for the primary objective, that of translating my story into as many Indo-Persian languages (and a few others) as possible, whilst additional funds will help color this book.
Languages I have selected to be translated within the target budget are
Any additional funds over the minimum campaign target are to be used for additional languages which I deem to be of interest.
I have gathered many potential translators via friends of mine throughout the world, who are far better than me (and google translate), to bring this contemporary interpretation of the Ramayana to as many people around the world as possible and who will help me finish this amazing project.
I look forward to completing The Ramayana: The Thread of Luminance and to having it completed by Diwali (Indian New Year and the time when Rama, having defeated Ravana returns to his home with Sita accompanied by Hanuman and his brother Laksman) in October 2013and as a digital and printed edition.
Risks and challenges
The only risk is meeting the deadline (October 2013) and having translators produce on commission a version of the dialogue in the appropriate language for that date.
I, myself, do not speak any languages (apart from English) and therefore need the help of professional translators. Because of the importance of the Ramayana in Asian cultures, I do not want to produce a single language version giving preference to one culture - the more I can complete at one time the less likely it is that I can be accused of showing favouritism.
