These are my first songs; my babies. I want to share them with the people around me. I am going to print the record myself. Join me!
Dear friends and family,
Over the past couple years, I've begun performing my songs beyond the confines of my bedroom. You've graced me with your time, your ears, and your feedback. I finally feel like the songs I'm writing are worth listening to and might encourage you or inspire you in some way. So I spent a few weekends in February, May, and June recording in my friend Nicholas Duke's backyard studio. I began with my simple songs that consisted of acoustic guitar and voice, and I added percussion, harmonies, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, electric guitars and other random instruments to fill the songs out and make them come alive. Nick made it all sound beautiful and pulled together. He and I are doing the finishing touches on the album now, and I've been thinking about how I'm going to release it. Here is where you come in!
I've decided that I want to print my album through the website GrooveHouse.com. GrooveHouse offers a "Do It Yourself" album package that consists of eco-friendly, 4-panel cardboard wallets. I'm going to draw some designs and screen print the artwork myself. I'm going to handwrite the lyrics and staple together each lyric booklet. I want each individual record to contain my time, thought, and care. Since I'm printing relatively small amounts of cds, I want to take advantage of the opportunity of making my records as personal as possible.
One way that some of my favorite bands and artists have made the record-making process personal is by inviting their fans, friends, and family to help out financially. I feel like it truly makes everyone a part of the music. With this Kickstarter page, the dollars you pledge will go directly to helping me fund the printing of my record. Any extra money will allow me to continue to play my songs in live settings and hopefully venture out to some new venues. I want to get these songs out to you and I'm eager to share them with new friends along the way. I'm going to release them digitally on July 26th, and it would mean the world to me if I could release the hard copy on the same day. The thought of having my music on a tangible record is so exciting to me, and it's a dream I've had since I first started playing guitar as a kid.
Check out the gifts I have to offer you in return for your pledges, and know that each dollar will help me get my music out to the world. If you feel like my music is worthwhile, please share it with those around you. I can't tell you enough how grateful I am for your support. The fact that my songs mean something to somebody besides myself is enormously encouraging! I can't wait to put these tunes in your cars, ipods, and computers.
Thanks for helping me along in my musical journey. This is my attempt to do more than just exist. Welcome to the motion!
