Most weekly planners are boring and sad. Maybe because they're being neglected in favor of phones and beepity-boop gadgets, or maybe because they're full of bank holidays and vast open spaces. I know when Christmas is already, but what I really want is my calendar page to yell at me for not sleeping enough, suggest an afternoon drink, give me a heads up on impending Mother's Day, then offer a stupid activity page that I really just needed to see today.
More than just a planner, the book serves as a journal, so you can document your life as you go. By the end of the year you'll have created a keepsake that you can take with you as you move forward, and unlike your online calendar, all the wonderful sentimentality you create is yours to hold and feel, forever.
I'm a nice, fun guy, who makes nice, fun things, inspired by daily life, the internet, 2am feelings, and also all the other feelings. This calendar is my way of spreading out all my positivity (and cynicism) across a whole year, to keep you happy, busy, and organized. The goal is to keep you actually using this, so you can look back at all you accomplished and feel good about the year we had.
This planner is a lot of fun but it's a functional planner, first and foremost. In real life I am a graphic designer, so finding the balance between style and usability is important to me. The planner is small enough to carry around, with plenty of writing space, weekly planning pages, and a good balance of hand-lettered charm and minuscule type. The fun stuff won't take over your own writing... this book is about you!
- 5" x 6" coil bound weekly planner and journal

- MAKES A GREAT GIFT
Here are some sample pages from last year's version:
Obviously, the structure doesn't change too much, but the rest of the content is fair game. Expect old favorites like the "Zzah Brahs" pizza rating scale, plenty of internet, tons of tiny notes and jokes, and standard resources like measurement conversions and a full year overview on the inside cover. (Above pages also show work by Emo Diaz and Jessica Collins, contributing illustrators from last year).
There are lots of fun treats involved here, and the best part is that EVERY REWARD LEVEL COMES WITH THEM. Each copy of the planner comes with a blank 2014 New Year postcard to keep or send, a party balloon for tiny celebrations, a mini pencil with eraser to start you off, and 1 more surprise. You'll get all of that with your $15 support pledge!
Higher reward levels come with some other bonuses, like an entire package (12) balloons, or items from my INTERNET GIFT SHOP, but it's all really pretty straightforward. Message me if you're confused about anything at all.
The 2014 BRAIN SUBSCRIPTION will be much simpler than my 2013 mail art club. I'll always love paper, but this year will be more focused on keepsake objects.12 months, 4 packages, bigger and better items and exclusives, and a more personalized experience. Last year featured t-shirts, mugs, ribbons, and pins -- this year will have that and plenty more. T-shirts, totes, weird stuff and cool stuff, products I've wanted to make for a while but haven't had the funds to produce... "from my brain to yours."
The 2014 BRAIN SUBSCRIPTION lasts all year and would make an awesome gift for someone very special (like you). Treat yourself now and then forget about it and be surprised every three months!
THIS IS A GOOD THING! Probably. Depends what you think is good. If you think "funny dumb useful offbeat interesting atypical independent unique original self-published silly self-aware sarcastic internet humor calendar journals" are good, then it is pretty good. Please help me make this year's edition a reality!
- This went pretty well last year.
- It sold 800+ copies on Kickstarter, my online shop, and in several bookstores, gift shops, and galleries!
- It also received some really nice mentions from PAPER magazine, the Urban Outfitters blog, mediabistro, and others.
- My sister Danielle really likes hers and she is a very smart person who I trust.
- Definitely not a horcrux at all.
- Please please please I am just 1 guy, I would be so grateful, I just want to make lots of pocket planners and have them be used by cool people all over the world.
Risks and challenges
This is my second Kickstarter campaign for this planner series, and my third edition. I've learned about production & shipping challenges, Amazon & Kickstarter fees, and things ran relatively smoothly last time! At this point I am practiced and ready to make realistic promises with regards to the producing and delivery times!
I'm a real person, available to help or answer questions, and good for my word. You can support this project in complete confidence, and I hope you will!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
