It's 7:30PM on a Tuesday and Daniel is knocking on the door to his boyfriend's parents house. With a bouquet of flowers and a well-rehearsed speech, he's about to embark on one of the most nerve-racking conversations of his adult life: Asking parents for the blessing to marry their child.
What unfolds over the course of the evening is simply inspiring. Both parents and a boyfriend discussing their love and admiration for a person who's not even present. We are left with a reminder that a family is a beautiful thing.
My hope is that this film will create a dialogue in favor of same-sex marriage. Regardless of sexual orientation, every American wants to make contributions in their community, work place, and family but being viewed as an equal is a crucial first step towards this goal becoming the status quo. And with this film I believe we have the chance to nudge our elected officials, neighbors, and families forward in a positive direction.
Our reward will be having this film seen by millions of people in our country and around the world. And if we're lucky to have that happen, I'll send my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you. I promise.
