Queens, New York is the most diverse neighborhood in the world. With well over 100 languages spoken at home, that means there are over 100 different cuisines being cooked as well. The Silk Road of Queens is a project intended to highlight NYC's culinary diversity and support Upwardly Global -- a non-profit dedicated to integrating skilled, legal immigrants into our country.
Join us for either Saturday, August 9 and/or Sunday, August 10 for a food tour across Queens. Each day we will visit 5 different restaurants in 6 hours that will highlight modern adaptations of the cuisines found along the ancient silk road and spice routes that connected Europe, Asia, and Africa. For the cost of one fancy dinner, you can try five of the most authentic spots in NYC and not have to worry about trekking from the subway or hailing a cab where they can be hard to come by.
New York is one of the only cities in the world where such an adventure is possible in one day, so let's give back to the community that makes it so international!

Risks and challenges
This is a complicated two day event to organize, but I have been planning it for three years. I have identified our transportation, prizes to give away during the days of the tours, and of course the restaurants themselves that we will visit on the two day food tour. Before I can put money down to reserve our spots, I just need a small commitment from others to know that others share my vision.
I am confident that we can pull off this historic journey or else I would not have gone through all of this effort already. The major risk is that the event might not raise as much as I would like for Upwardly Global given unforeseen costs. I will do everything in my power to make it a great experience for you, our attendees, so it reflects well on the organization and hopefully results in some publicity for our cause.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
