Shukran Update #1

Marhaba* and Happy One Weekiversary!

Can you believe it? It's been one week since my campaign was started.

Now, one week later, we are already at 37% and with 46 backers, that is very impressive indeed.  What makes me the most awestruck about this is that all these people (and more!) believe in the project.  So shukran* to those who contributed money and also those that are helping get the word out via socail media channels.

To add even more excitement was the fact that Kickstarter picked the flashcards as the Project of the Day, out of hundreds of others.

I was so happy, I called Jill right away and we both spent some time on the phone screaming!

Here is what I’ve been doing lately:

Flashcard Holders

I went out Tuesday and got some really fun fabric so that I can start thinking about how I’m going to sew the handmade holders for the flashcards. I'm going to wait on cutting anything until I get the size of the flashcards fully taken care of with Marymoor Press, however, I just couldn't wait to go shopping for fabrics!

Of course, I might be putting the cart before the horse, since there is 2/3rd of the project left to fund. But I am trying to stay positive and keep my faith in Allah* that all my facebook friends, twitter friends, pinterest friends and yes, even strangers (well, new friends, I mean!) will help get this project off the ground.

I'm not sure if it's clear enough in the description on my write up, but I CAN ship internationally, but each backer outside the US will need to pay the shipping. I just don't know the costs yet so I was unable to include it previously. Once we find out what the complete flashcard set weighs, I would be able to charge the right amount for those overseas. So if you know anyone that would be interested in backing this project, but they live in Brazil, please tell them its okay! And if they live anywhere else other then the US or Brazil, that is okay too. But honestly, it would be pretty cool to ship something to Brazil.

Coloring book

For those that are interested, I’ve been thinking about making a coloring book for the Arabic Alphabet Animals. In view of the fact that creating each page takes me quite a bit of time, I’ve been doing this project slowly. The completed animals I have been adding to my blog, in hopes that one day there will be a full book. So if you’re interested in any free coloring pages for your kids, please visit these pages:

Zayn is for Zaraafa

Alif is for Arrnab
Baa is for Batreek
Fa is for Faraasha
Seen is for Samakah
Ta is for Timsaah

6 down and only 22 more to go!

I’ll be doing a podcast on Monday to advertise this project in Ireland.  Given that this is my first ever podcast, I can honestly say I’m not sure how they work. However, when I get more details, I’ll be sure to share them!  And if you have any advice about podcasting and how i can be less nervous, please do share it!

This is a great Kickstart project. My three little kids are taking Arabic lessons right now and the cards will help them review at home.

You probably know about this, but it's helpful too:…. I'll probably combine it with the cards, when we get them
