OAKMEAL makes delicious & nutritious gluten free Acorn Flour & high energy Acorn treats.
We are teaching the world about eating abundant ACORNS everywhere. Acorns can play an important role in the battle against hunger across the world, they are a great food source hidden in plain view.
Baking Acorn Cookies began as a way to save Oak trees on Kea island by raising awareness of acorns and giving the trees added value. We also run the non-profit Acorn Initiative which helps farmers sell acorn caps to leather tanneries in Europe. Every year volunteers from around the world are invited to learn more about acorns during the acorn gathering season. OAKMEAL will host the 8th Acorn Festival in October 2019, an acorn celebration for the entire island community.
OAKMEAL also plays a vital role in generating eco-friendly tourism through our International media coverage and elected seat on the local Business Association.
IT'S TIME TO SCALE UP AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!
To keep going, we need a cash infusion to buy:
Vacuume Sealer for safe storage of acorn nuts
In total these items cost over €120,000 but we've set a more realistic goal to start with. We've come too far on this acorn journey to stop now and any of the items listed will help us scale up and get acorns to more people everywhere!
Our rewards include Acorn Cookies, Acorn Fruit Chews, Acorn Flour and the soon to be published "Eating Acorns" field guide & cookbook for essential acorn skills by Marcie Lee Mayer.
An in depth film about the Acorn Harvest on Kea island in Greece from October 2017.
