ACE connects people to music and to each other in unexpected and inspiring ways. Re-thinking what a concert could be...
Check out our work this season at www.acensemble.org
Skate-boarders and mountain bikers choreographing Prokofiev's quintet with video, live dancers interpreting a lone flute solo playing the music of Bach, "choose your own adventure" program notes, audiences ordering music from a chamber music menu, musicians AND audience in steampunk costumes, a year-long residency and one-of-a-kind live radio show at the public radio station....it all happened in Season One of the Atlantic Chamber Ensemble, and now it's time to develop Season Two!
Why? Because the classical music business NEEDS to evolve. Most organizations are far too big to be flexible enough for these innovations and they can't afford the risk because they have so much to lose if the risk doesn't work. ACE will serve as a microcosm and a testing ground for these innovations in programming, presentation, structure, and management...in the hopes to pass along the lessons we learn to other arts organizations.
Your money will be used to create, produce, and perform a series of chamber music events during the 2012/13 season in universities, churches, rock clubs, elementary schools, etc. But more than that...your money will fund the innovation that we can carry back to the rest of the classical music world to improve the concert experience for everyone!
What will we do if we raise more money? The scope and quality of the concerts will go even higher, and the ticket prices will drop to a level where EVERYONE can come and enjoy the art!
This is not simply "Beethoven in Blue Jeans" or classical music in coffee shops. It's more than a string of gimmicks or tricks. This is the real music, played by professional musicians from the Richmond Symphony in the best acoustics we can find/afford...but presented in such a way that it isn't threatening or boring...it's something you might actually be able to relate to, and even be inspired by!
Don't take our word for it. Here are some quotes from people who have attended our concerts (posted anonymously on our "real life wall")
- "ACE is the most unique chamber ensemble ever!"
- "I was blown away"
- "An incredible way to experience music"
- "Unique, superb, fantastic"
- "Fresh and Frenzied! Intimate - Exactly how ANY music ought to be presented!"
- "I've paid 2x as much for concerts I enjoyed 1/2 as much."
Our mission is to make classical music relevant to the 21st century audience through authentic human experiences of the art.
We've shown we can do it...our audiences are younger and more excited about music than the normal classical music crowd. We need to keep the ideas and the music flowing now!
