About this project
WE WANT OUR ZINE FEST AND WE WANT IT . . .
In September, please?
A small band of volunteers is producing the FIRST-EVER ABQ Zine Fest in Albuquerque. In just a few short weeks, we’ll be joining a growing roster of creative, cut and paste symposiums across the nation and around the world. ABQ Zine Fest will launch a weekend of wall-to-wall zines and zine-inspired craft, live music, zine-making workshops, zine readings, a 48-hour zine writing challenge, and the first ZINE OLYMPIC GAMES (from the wonderfully warped mind of Chicago transplant Billy McCall.)
The mission of the ABQ Zine Fest is to bring zinesters in the city together--- to illuminate the exciting and vibrant zine scene that exists in Albuquerque, and to foster an only-slightly-competitive, queer-friendly, ethnic-rich environment of creation in written, zine-ic form. Through an exchange of ideas, energy, skill sets, discussions and workshops, ABQ Zine Fest hopes to nourish the expansion of zine culture in Albuquerque.
((((All right, all right. That's all well and cool but, WHAT DO WE NEED THE MONEY FOR?))))
Funding from Kickstarter will help us with promotional materials, guest artist fees, cover the printing costs of the first-annual commemorative zine of the fest which we will give out to everyone who attends, for free. We need your help to LAUNCH THIS ZINE FEST, to keep costs low for vendors, and to help ensure that the fest stays FREE for anyone who wishes to attend. Of course, the more we raise, THE MORE WE CAN DO! Thanks for your support!
Here's a peek at the epic swag bag you'll receive with pledges of $10 bucks or higher it only looks like an ubiquitous link, but it's really pretty cute, made my Ms. Marya. :http://www.abqzinefest.logicaldesignllc.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/swag_bag.jpg
In short, a zine is an independently published periodical, similar to
a magazine, but on a much smaller scale. Generally done by a single
person, with a small number of each issue published, the topics can
range from music, personal ramblings, to pretty much anything else.
A zinefest is a gathering of people interested in zines, where they
can buy, sell, or trade zines.
That means you will be given space to sell your zines at our zinefest!
A chance to set up shop and show the world what you do!
We have about 2 dozen total tables available, and 17 of those are
available for purchase through the kickstarter page.
Well, this is a ZINEfest, so zines will be given first priority when
it comes to determining who will be given the opportunity to sell
their goods. However, other non-zine items will certainly be
considered, as long as they fit in with our guidelines and meet with
Items sold at the zinefest must be hand-made or hand-crafted in
nature. They must be creative and unique. They must fit in with the
basic ideals of DIY-enthusists. And they must not, in any way,
promote discriminatory behavior, such as racism, sexism, homophobia,
etc. Mass-produced bootlegged Mickey Mouse watches from China will
not be considered. Things like self-published books, handknitted
scarves, handcarved statues will be.
You can still pledge to the fest! You may pledge any amount you like! If the level you pledge at allows you a table that you don't need, you can simply say so! No problem! You may also suggest possible pledge levels/rewards!
