The Albuquerque Comic Expo, or ACE, is a comic book, pop culture, and entertainment convention that takes place every June in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The show was formed in 2011, and we've forged a strong history of providing Southwest with a high quality show, featuring an eclectic and exciting mix of comic book professionals, celebrities, independent creators, and more!
A ton of celebrities have appeared at the Albuquerque Comic Expo's previous shows, including Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, LeVar Burton, Marina Sirtis, Ernie Hudson, Doug Jones, Adam Baldwin, Katee Sackhoff, Billy Dee Williams, Giancarlo Esposito, and Billy West! We've also hosted an amazing variety of comic creators, including Stan Lee, Ethan Van Sciver, Gene Ha, Tony Harris, Bill Sienkiewicz, Arthur Suydam, Michael Golden, Len Wein, Phil Hester, Andy Kuhn, John McCrea, and many, many more. We continually strive to bring you the best talent with every new show!
The show takes place at the Albuquerque Convention Center, smack dab in the middle of the downtown Albuquerque New Mexico. The center has an impressive 106,000 square foot main room, and we fill it up every year with tons of awesome exhibitors - we’ve had everything from comic book and video game retailers to national and independent publishers, full replicas of Star Wars set pieces, tattoo artists, and a bunch of other stuff.
ACE isn't just a giant show floor - we also host a ton of great events to keep you busy the entire weekend! We have a full schedule of panels, screenings, Q&A's, workshops, and tons of other events that run during and after the show!
For our upcoming fourth year, we'd like to try something a little different - We want to take the power of designing a show like ours and put it into YOUR hands, creating the world's first community-driven comic book, pop culture, and entertainment convention!
The more funding we can secure before the show, the better the show will be - so we're using crowdfunding as a platform to raise the capital needed to put on the best show we can! It also gives us a fantastic opportunity to provide the fans the credit and rewards that you deserve for supporting independent conventions!
Pledge a minimum of $5 to ACE, and you'll get access to the ACE Funder's Forum, which we've designed to bring YOU into the planning process, and build the show truly for the fans!
Don’t worry, though - the Albuquerque Comic Expo will happen in June of 2014 regardless of the success of the Kickstarter project!
With any pledge above $5, you'll get access to the ACE Funder's Forum, where you'll have a direct line of communication with the convention organizers, and you'll play an instrumental role in deciding the direction of the show! Members of the Funder's Forum will have an unprecedented amount of access into the process of planning a convention. You'll be able to help choose which guests will appear at the show, which exclusives we'll be offering, what panels we put into the schedule, and whole lot more! Almost every aspect of the show will be informed by the community - and we want you to be a part of it!
After the funding is successful, we'll send out instructions for accessing the ACE Funder's Forum. Once you have access to the forum, you will have a direct line of communication with the ACE team. You will have the ability to post suggestions, participate in private polls and topics, get early information and announcements, and many other items that will shape the direction of the show.
Let’s say you'd like to see more webcomic creators at ACE 2014. You would create a post in the suggestion forum. We and other community members see the post, and put it up for a vote with all of the forum members. If the vote is successful, we'll go out of our way to get the best webcomic creators we can! Down the line, you would also be voting on which webcomic creators to bring to the show, and whether we'd like to approach them to do an exclusive of some kind.
The process isn't just voting on polls and commenting on threads - The Funder's Forum will include show images and concepts, meetups, Google Hangouts and many other exclusive programs! We're going to be actively participating in these discussions as well, so your voice will be heard!
All of the votes and discussions will be equally weighted, regardless of how much you kick in. This keeps things fair for everyone involved, and will make the process fun and enjoyable!
The backing funds from the ACE 2014 Kickstarter will be used for several different show-related things, like covering celebrity costs, convention center fees, and boring stuff like that. We WILL NOT use any of the funds for things like payroll, buying boats, gigantic parties, or anything extravagant or unnecessary - unless, of course, you vote for it.

$15,000 - ACE Dungeons - We're going to add an interactive, live-action roleplaying dungeon crawl to ACE 2014! ACE Dungeons is a fully realized live-action roleplaying game, complete with puzzle solving, character creation and progression, combat, and magic! The best part? As a member of the ACE Funder's Forum, you'll be able to help design the look, feel, and gameplay of the game, and do test runs!
All backers who pledge $20 or more get 1 free quest per ACE ticket. All backers who backed $50 or more get special exclusive first access to ACE Dungeons on a special preview night!
$17,000 - ACE Funder's Forum Documentary - We'll invite a documentary crew out to take a no-holds barred look at the entire ACE Funder's Forum process!
ALL backers will receive a copy of the documentary upon completion. Estimated July 2014.
$20,000 - ACE Funder's Forum Pre-Party - We'll throw an exclusive pre-party for ACE Funder's Forum members! Come hang out with celebrities, comic creators, the show organizers, and each other! Food and drink will be provided! Location and time TBD - by YOU, in the ACE Funder's Forum!
$25,000 - ACE HQ - We're going to open a retail location! Swing by all year round to check out the ACE Interactive Events, play games, hang out, or just to say hello! ACE HQ will be the home of the USS Miko Artemis bridge, which is our interactive starship bridge simulator. We'll add more interactive events, like ACE Dungeons, as time progresses.

Risks and challenges
We're going to have a show in June of 2014 regardless of the success of the Kickstarter experiment, so there aren't many potential obstacles!
There is always the possibility of problems cropping up in the Funder's Forum process, like celebrity talent who were voted for not being available - but these are obstacles that we can easily overcome.
There is also the option that while the project is backed, members of the Funder's Forum won't participate. We'll do the best we can to encourage participation from everyone!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We know it's not! There are quite a few wonderful conventions that have been funded via Kickstarter, and that have paved the way for our project! That's actually not what "world's first 100% community powered comic convention" is referring to. We're actually talking about everything that happens after the funding is successful, the ACE Funder's Forum. Our backers will be working together to make decisions about what we're actually going to have at the show - guests, events, panels, q&a's, floor design - you name it, the backers are going to choose it!
