About

 TL;DR

  • Good ol' analog card game
  • Learn through play (no better way) of the intricacies of office life (networking, sucking up and a little bit of working)
  • Learning elements include co-opetition through frenemy-ing, potency of social currency and strength of credibility
  • Having fun!

Playing the game:

Randomly choose a CV:

If during game play you realize your character is really useless that's because it was modeled after real people in the real world. That and life is not fair.

At The Corporation:

"Work will always expand to fill the time available for it's completion" (Modified from Parkinson's Law)

This is where you will learn to become a bureaucrat and make a absolutely no difference to the world. You will be required to sit and warm seats for up to 8 hours a day.

Playing a Turn

Each week (turn) has 40 hours. Your job is to deliver as many projects in the highest possible quality in those 40 hours. The Corporation encourages you to work overtime without any regard for your health or personal time. You will be paid the same pittance and not have any chance of promotion unless you know the secret handshakes.

Doing your Job

At The Corporation there are a wide selection of projects from a wide range of industries including shipping, healthcare, banking etc. If you think that all projects seem to look the same it is because they are. At the end of the day it's really the same sh*t, different names:

You will be scored in a totally opaque and convoluted manner. This process has been passed down for decades and being an employee of The Corporation you will continue to uphold the process to the highest possible standards without question because it has always worked.

Time is your greatest enemy and you have 2 hours (an hourglass will be provided) to prove your worth, on top of the 104 turns (The Corporation wants to help you become successful and drive you towards promotion in two years. If not you will be driven out)

Try to complete the project in as little weeks as possible. Do note, The Corporation expects you to comply with endless processes which make no sense to you whatsoever but management requires it to make up phantom numbers and impress our shareholders. Weekly tasks can include: reporting, clocking of hours, e-learning. Annual tasks can include: signing of code of business conduct, setting of personal business goals, appraising those goals at the end of the year. Every quarter and every month, we also expect financial period closing and opening. (Oh yes, do not forget to clear leave)

There are actions within your control. Each turn you have a total of 40 hours (you can choose to sell your soul to the company if you so choose, up to a legislative legal limit of  80 hours). Leveling up you will spend less time doing the same mundane repetitive tasks.

Remember, every action has it's consequence:

Self improvement is highly encouraged because training costs money and there is no tangible return on investment.

Everyone has a choice to decide on their actions.

Projects will require productivity points to complete. The action will be subjected to endless layers of approval communicated through endless chains of emails, calls and meetings.

If you're wondering where most of your day has gone. Your colleagues are probably to blame with ineffective communication skills.

Red Tape

You will need to ensure all action have gone through the proper approval channels with adequate committee meetings and conference calls so that no one knows what is going on.

Social Currency and Credibility

You gain social currency for performing actions that help others. You can trade the social currency for favors. Different points will allow you to level up your skills. Negative action will result in the loss of your social currency and ability to influence.

Gain credibility with your boss by doing your job well.

Events

Some things are out of your control. However, as a big company, The Corporation does not care and the fault will still lie with you if things screw up.

Things to be done:

1. Graphic design of the cards (by April 2015)

2. Testing of the game (a rough concept is out however, it needs to be fully tested to ensure the mechanics make sense)

(Multiple rounds of testing. To be concluded by May 2015)

3. Manufacture (By September 2015)

4. Shipping (October 2015 first shipments go out from Singapore)

The plan for sustainability

1. There are a few companies who actually wish to see the end product and use it as training material

2. Hopefully have enough funds to create an app and create a digital version of the game

Risks and challenges

1. As of now the game is not fully complete. I expect it to be finished by May 2015
2. There needs to be enough volume to bring down costs at the printers
3. Sourcing for the right printer with the right expertise
4. Packaging of the items will most likely be done by a social enterprise if possible

I will update this when new risks arise

    • You look back at the days of working in the organization, the good days, the bad days and realize, you're a lot richer than when you began, but still middle class
    • The reward tier is similar
    • You will receive the full deck, laminated on your behalf

    C-suite
    • Honestly, no one knows how you managed to make it so far to the top
    • But you're loaded with money, so no one cares and just want to be friends with you
    • At this reward tier, you get the full deck, professionally laminated (it's honestly still the same, but because you are paying more, we add the word professional)
    • You will receive a hand crafted wooden box to store and house your professionally laminated cards (they do not need more protection, but at the upper echelon superfluousness is a way of life)
    • Most importantly, at this level, your decisions actually matter and you get to design one card that will be added to the deck
